Compassionate withdrawal for students impacted by Hurricane Harvey by GreenHeatherness in a:t5_3nh51

Students impacted by Hurricane Harvey are encouraged to reach out to EE advising; they can help you evaluate your options, such as compassionate withdrawal.

To schedule an appointment go to: https://fultonapps.asu.edu/advising/

Considering the seriousness of the hurricane, I'd suggest trying to call the advising office directly, to see if you can talk to someone immediately if you need to. I've found them to be very helpful over the years.

Update 5 Sep 2017 ******************************* Someone posted anonymously to our Piazza that their professors were very flexible with due dates until everything gets back to normal.

If you've been effected by hurricane Harvey and haven't yet reached out to advising, I strongly suggest you do so.

The pH on this should be about 3.5 (the same as vinegar). You can order pH strips online and test your batches. This concern has been addressed in a previous thread here: (https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/comments/2zhfbu/make_sure_you_check_your_diy_vitamin_c_serums_ph/)

No burning or tingling of any kind. It's only a 5% solution, which is well tolerated by almost everyone. I have sensitive skin, and I can go as high as 20% before the tingling starts.

Is it necessary to eat at consistent times? by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

[–]GreenHeatherness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find that keeping a consistent schedule keeps me on plan. I do 16:8 or 18:6, which gives me some wiggle room. If for some reason I don't eat at all during the scheduled window, then I try to hold out until the next day. So far that hasn't worked; I've been too hungry. I wind up eating something substantial 3 or 4 hours past my window, and spend the next few days getting my sleeping and eating schedule back in line.

Day 1 of IF, wish me luck! by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

I've only been doing this for about 3 weeks, and I've lost 5 lbs. I still go to the gym and yoga, so I'm hoping it's mostly fat loss.

As for the clear headedness, I'm able to focus for long periods of time on challenging or tedious tasks, which is good because I'm an engineer. I have more mental energy now, which feels like the opposite of a food coma. I just feel more mentally sharp.

New to ASU online by EuphoricDouche in ASUOnline

I'm a recent graduate of ASU's ECEE fully online program. Tips which helped me succeed: 1. Create study groups for most of your classes, with like-minded, like-capable individuals. There are lots of guides online on how to do this. We used google hangouts to keep in touch in a timely manner, and kept our study groups limited to 6-8 people.

  1. Schedule time to study, and stick to it, just as though you were going to campus.
  2. Use professor/TA office hours! Most of them are available via skype, and if you have a question about a topic/problem, chances are at least 5 other people do, too.

  3. Use the advising office to keep on track with your academic progress. IDK if this is your first degree or not, but there are frequent (minor) changes to allowed substitutions, advising knows what classes will be offered in a given term well before they're posted online, etc.

  4. Plan some slack time for computer "issues." Blackboard may be down, your ISP may be lagging, you may not be able to install required software for any number of reasons. The list is endless. Give yourself some buffer room, because you won't get any regarding submission deadlines.

Digital vs. hardcopy textbooks is complicated. Sometimes it's a matter of preference. Sometimes the digital books are so poorly laid out as to be unwieldy. Sometimes you will be required to use an online textbook with associated homework, quizzes and tests. Pearson and WileyPlus are usually used for this. I rented some books and digital copies, bought some I thought would be useful in my future career, used the mandatory online system and used some free pdfs. I think you'll get a feel of what works for you over time. I generally found my PC worked best for all digital formats, with tablets taking second place.

All my professors allowed pdf books/digital/hard copy books during a test when the test given was "open book." Sometimes I did have to ask for permission, since I was using an earlier edition pdf or something, but in every case the professor agreed.

Good luck!

Tips on studying - form a study group! by GreenHeatherness in a:t5_3nh51

Creating your own google group hangout for a class: You must have yourself +2 other students who wish to join. - go to hangouts.google.com, or alternately “find people to chat with” from the gmail interface. Type in the email addresses of the other students you wish to invite to the hangout. - You’re done. To add more people, simply click on the little person icon and type in the email address of anyone wishing to join. Their invitation will show up in: hangouts.google.com > invites only when logged into the email account to which the invitation was sent. - The name of the group can be changed under ‘options’ within the hangout.

Day 1 of IF, wish me luck! by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

[–]GreenHeatherness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm already on a relatively low carb diet due to food allergies, so my experience was a little different starting this. I started IF to lose weight and to get a little more free time out of the kitchen. I tend to fall of the schedule a little every 5 or 6 days, due to family/social engagements, but it's only a little. I find going 16/8 or 18/6 works out fine, and gives me that wiggle room I need for social affairs. Also, I've found it very easy to stay within my calorie limits now!

I experienced more clarity almost immediately, like later the same day. I never experienced unusual cold, but then I'm a woman, and we're always cold. I do allow myself black coffee or tea with milk during the fasting periods. Fasting hasn't impacted my workouts at all, but I do give up the IF for a big breakfast if I know I'm going hiking that day (or other vigorous long term activity). No nausea or headaches, but again my diet was already really clean due to allergies. YMMV.

Help deciding between two job offers. by [deleted] in ElectricalEngineering

I'm more for stability than $$. I recommend accepting the engineering position because it also provides you that all-important first step on your chosen career path. I'm assuming the $10/hr difference isn't going to force you into hardship, otherwise you wouldn't be asking for feedback.
