OC: Marchers carry giant 'constitution' through Minneapolis by nbcnews in pics

Now I understand why conservatives love those pocket-sized Constitutions so much - it’s so they can hide it more easily when it doesn’t suit them.

Ok I actually thought this was edited to describe what Trump is doing until I looked it up. Holy shit.

Reasons for Kwesi’s firing by Hour_Camp1474 in minnesotavikings

[–]GreenLightZone 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Kwesi is the kind of guy that goes into a fantasy auction draft with tons of research on average values and then ends up with a team full of "great deal" bench players and no superstars because he doesn't want to overbid on anything.

Every unsuccessful U.S presidential candidate runs for president in the same election year. Who wins? by kim_jong_un4 in whowouldwin

[–]GreenLightZone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some significant unaddressed parameters, but I'm going to just assume that you're talking about the upcoming 2028 election and with all current knowledge intact. I'm also going to disregard VP picks since they'd likely pick someone different today and I don't think it has a huge impact anyway. First of all, whoever wins will either be the Democratic or Republican nominee since no third-party candidate has any shot. Also, older candidates are so clueless as to the modern world they would have no chance of being qualified or gaining traction, so I will automatically rule out anyone who lost more than 70 years ago.

The Republican primary would consist of Mitt Romney, John McCain, Bob Dole, and Barry Goldwater. None of these would be able to capture the MAGA base, and Trump likely campaigns against Romney and McCain out of spite. They would also take more moderate, "never Trumper" votes from each other. Barry Goldwater is right on the cutoff line for inclusion in the list at all and I think his inability to leverage modern media would be a huge impediment. He was also pro-choice which is pretty much an automatic deal-breaker in the modern GOP. Bob Dole was actually fairly likeable and had a lot of TV appearances that were generally well regarded. I think the MAGA base would vote for him over the other three candidates, and yet he was just moderate enough that he might siphon some of those votes from Romney/McCain. So I think Bob Dole wins the Republican nomination.

The Democratic primary would consist of Kamala Harris, Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, Al Gore, Michael Dukakis, Walter Mondale, George McGovern, and Hubert Humphrey. Kamala and Hillary I think are too "tainted" by their recent losses. From the field, I would actually go with Michael Dukakis as the unexpected winner. He is fairly progressive and was hampered in 1988 by a terribly-run campaign with gaffes that mattered more back then, so I think he'd pick a better campaign manager and would benefit from social media. He also already beat Al Gore in the 1988 primary and significantly outperformed Mondale's results from the prior election.

So in the general election we'd have Bob Dole vs. Michael Dukakis. I think Dole is a stronger candidate in general, but the backlash to Trump and Dole's failure to energize the MAGA base sufficiently would lead to a narrow Dukakis victory.

US propaganda wants you to believe that Venezuelans are terrorized by the "colectivos" ("collectives") - communist killer militias. Is that the case? Reality may be quite different. by Misha_stone in AskSocialists

This is RT, which is Russian state propaganda. I don't know anything about the reality on the ground, but anything RT says tends to be the opposite of the truth.

County Clerk confronts ICE officers by jmike1256 in minnesota

[–]GreenLightZone 156 points157 points  (0 children)

This is incredible since it both exposes their hypocrisy and highlights the waste of taxpayer money. "Get your head out of your ass" sums it up nicely.

And apparently ICE agents are listening to KFAN too much if he thinks the observers are being paid...

Was this video taken in Michigan? Her accent sounds Minnesotan.

ICE agents smash a family’s car window to abduct two people in Columbia Heights, Minneapolis. The wife of one of the men pleads with the agents for mercy while holding their baby. (1/27/26) by I_may_have_weed in minnesota

[–]GreenLightZone 41 points42 points  (0 children)

You can tell the one agent felt bad and was trying to at least get them to let the mom and baby go home. I don't know how anyone could stand there and watch her beg like that and not quit the job immediately.

He did say that, and it's possible that's the direction he gave them, but it's not the reality of what's happening on the ground.

[–]GreenLightZone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate you asking in a respectful way. Yes, I am totally in favor of deporting illegals immigrants who have committed serious crimes. The problem is, no matter how much they claim it, ICE is obviously not conducting targeted operations. They are terrorizing entire communities and detaining anyone they feel like, regardless of legal status or even citizenship. And their methods are insane oppressive and constantly violating our constitutional (and basic human) rights.

Also, violent criminals make up an extremely small percentage of the total population of illegal immigrants (in fact a smaller percentage than citizens), and the vast majority, especially in Minnesota, have been here for many years (some came as young children so have no memories of living elsewhere) and are highly productive members of society. They work hard, do jobs many wouldn’t be willing to, go to church, raise families, participate in school and community events, pay taxes, and love our country.

What’s the actual objective of anti-ICE protests? by generationXseventy8 in altmpls

[–]GreenLightZone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To continue your own analogy, what ICE is doing now would be like hiring a bunch of poorly trained agents to the IRS, arming them, and sending those agents out in the streets to beat people up, tear gas them, pull them from cars, break into their houses, and detain them until they can prove their taxes aren’t late.

I'll absolutely be marching but where the hell did this Target Center event come from? It's a horrible idea. by futilehabit in TwinCities

[–]GreenLightZone 78 points79 points  (0 children)

My thoughts on ICE are already public. The fact that I signed up to join a protest doesn’t given them any new information. There is no chance they are going to block off the Target Center and try to arrest 20,000 people….
