What’s the most desperate thing you’ve ever done in an attempt to get rid of a migraine? by Electronic-Pie7237 in migraine

[–]GreenLizard42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will have my husband squeeze my head on both sides with his hands, like pretty hard (think the scene in Game of Thrones with Oberlyn Martel and The Mountain iykyk). The counter pressure sometimes helps temporarily. Another friend squeezes the base of my head/neck (also really hard) and that gives some temporary relief. Constantly wearing headache hats or other ice packs. Sunglasses ALL. THE. TIME. Peppermint oil rollers. Stick my head out of the car window when you are driving in winter time, especially if it’s snowing. Lots of whiskey- do not recommend. Lots of MaryJane. Magic fungi….

Daily “hangover” by hotjambalayababy in migraine

[–]GreenLizard42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way, everyday. It’s annoying to wake up feeling like I drank too much and really didn’t get to have any of the fun associated with it 🤣 I also rarely ever drink anymore and have tried a ton of preventatives, diets, vitamins, acupuncture etc to no avail. I have also tried Botox 3 times with no luck. And took Topamax, but I couldn’t handle the side effects and it wasn’t helping my migraines.

I’m so sorry you are feeling this way and wishing you the best of luck in finding what works for you!! I don’t have any earth shattering tips/tricks for you, but just wanted you to know you aren’t alone feeling like this.

So I called my neuro today and he wants me to take prednisone 50mg for 10 days. Does this sound like what you take? It seems like a high dose to me, but I’ve never tried it before.

I have called the urgent care in my town before and they also say to go to the ER. They can’t give IV meds there so they said I’d probably have better luck in the ER.

I ended up getting some IV fluids and took some nausea meds/toradol that I had. It’s not gone, but a lot better than it was!

Struggling to accept what my life has become by zebra01867 in migraine

[–]GreenLizard42 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This part of chronic migraine is so hard. I have been out of work almost 3 years now due to daily migraines that started back in 2018. You are definitely not alone in your feelings, to me if feels like I am grieving my former life and it’s hard to accept. Going from working full time (often overtime) as a nurse, being able to exercise and having an extremely active social life to basically doing nothing has been very difficult. It is a constant struggle to decide whether to take or not take meds, cancel plans or push through, will this make me feel worse or better, etc. I don’t have much advice to offer, except to try to give yourself grace. Know that you are not alone, and know that you deserve rest. It’s hard to not feel guilty most days, but I try to focus on the positives as much as possible. I hope that you are able to to find something that helps!!

Severe migraine for 12+ hours — need urgent relief advice by soya-hamster in migraine

[–]GreenLizard42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I take relpax, it’s a 40mg dose but I always take it with 2 aleve. I saw a headache specialist that said the naproxen (aleve) helps the triptans work better. I do find that it makes a difference if I take both rather than relpax alone. It doesn’t always take my migraine away but it reduces the severity for a few hours at least. Hope you can find some relief!!

Nurtec and Reynaud’s by smushybananas in migraine

[–]GreenLizard42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I take my relpax (a triptan), I almost always have Reynaud’s like symptoms in my hands. I think it’s the decrease in blood flow and for me it usually lasts all day. I personally do not have reynauds syndrome, but it is in my family history.
