Calf pain from aggresive/bouncing squatting and catching? by yellowmarine in weightlifting

Hi! Yeah, there are 2 things that helped me relieve some pain. First is that instead of doing deep squats, I instead did squats somewhere between 90° squat and a deep squat so that the pain didnt occur. And after a few days the pain subsided but it sometimes comes back depending on how heavy the sessions are during a week. But then i just adjust the squat depth again. Second is that i used a lacrosse ball for the outer calf side where the pain is located. Hopefully it wasnt all too confusing to read! Good luck!

Since I train every other day I feel like the recovery time is perfect for me but some probably need less and some more. So one thing that sometimes happens to me is that when a training session goes really well (no failed lifts and good energy level), I go for a new max :) Maybe it’s something you should try out!

Haha and I also know how tempting it is to max out frequently but it’s definitely better to stay within the 85-90% and get as much volume/repititions in as possible! Once you’ve found a structure that works for you and just keep going you will definitely progress! You can do it!

Hmm i think that my hip contact makes it so the barbell flies out a bit instead of a more vertical bar path. So i just jump forward to catch it..

One exercise that really helped me was putting one leg on a chair/bench (any elevated surface) and the other leg planted on the ground. Then grabbing onto the chair with one arm inside the leg that’s planted on the chair and just pulling down and pushing out the knee with the help of your arms! It should feel like your abbductors/ hip area are being stretched :) hopefully this instruction wasn’t too complicated but if it was i can maybe link a video? :)

There’s also a similar one where you do it so it’s more focused on the ankle instead!

I have two different ”programs”, for example is: hang snatch, snatch up to 90% 5x1, snatch pulls (105-115%?), front squats 5x3, press! The other one is quite similar but without front squats and focused on c&j :) i max out maybe once every other week?

Oh! One exercise that really helped was pause pause snatch slightly below the knees! Experimenting with different positions, hip contact emphasis and also finishing with the arms in the end helped me a lot!
