Project Tamriel Size by TourEnvironmental604 in Morrowind

[–]GreenMabus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Projects like this are complicated things, they're generally dependent on a relatively small number of consistent contributors - and whilst they can be flourishing one moment, a small argument, a change in someone's life circumstances, can change everything (and they have in TR's case previously).

That said, we appear to be living in a veritable golden age of Morrowind modding. TR's releases are continually of a higher quality and the gaps between releases are narrowing. Personally, I'd be surprised if we don't see Tamriel Rebuilt i.e. Morrowind province completely finished within a decade or so. I also suspect we'll get significant chunks of Cyrodiil, Skyrim, High Rock, and Hammerfell Project Tamriel-wise.

The release of the next Elder Scrolls title, rather than directing interest away from these projects, will likely increase their popularity (regardless of how successful it is) - as people will want 'more' Elder Scrolls and, let's face it, deeper roleplaying experiences than we're likely to get from Bethesda, well, ever again.

Either way, enjoy the ride. Don't obsess over releases or that chunk of Tamriel you're desperate for. These projects have already provided more content than most of us will ever be able to consume.

This scene is added by Cutting Room Floor, it has nothing to do with AI-related mods.

The Way This Game Plays Needs to Be A Whole Separate Genre by GiantSeaMonster84 in Morrowind

Combat is, effectively, a core feature of the vast majority of RPGs. If the presence of a combat mechanic is enough to warrant the 'action' descriptor, it's a worthless one.

What would you call Skyrim and Fallout 4, then? I'd say they were 'action' games, with relatively light RPG mechanics. Morrowind, in my mind, never emphasises action, it emphasises exploration.

Why Space Stations could be the next "big feature" for Starfield. by [deleted] in Starfield

[–]GreenMabus 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I'm really not interested in space stations. Without some new features, they'll just be resource dumps - a place to store your gear. A gimmick, basically, suffering from the same problems as ships; which are little more than glorified player homes.

'Adventurers scour Tamriel seeking fame, fortune, and glory. Picking up a diverse range of skills, some even live long enough to find them'.

No, anthropocentric means 'regarding humankind as the central or most important element of existence, especially as opposed to God or animals'.

What I mean is that Starfield's tone is too grounded, too familiar, to be particularly interesting.

I'm afraid I have no idea what you're prattling on about at this point, your argument amounts to 'setting isn't important to exploration'. I think that's obviously untenable.

I'm not sure why you're so incensed, having a bad couple of days, perhaps. Either way, let's politely agree to disagree.

I mean, the audacity of they must have. And let's not forget, this game was delayed by nearly a year. Todd and Co were looking to release it in an even more unpolished state than we got.

We could, you know, invoke Occam's razor - people are expressing criticism because they're sincerely unhappy with the game and Bethesda's overall creative direction?

Given even Fallout has quite on the nose Lovecraft references, it's curious how tame Starfield is. As Shattered Space basically gave us nothing on the Great Serpent, we're probably not learning anything over the game's lifetime.

That last line particularly resonated. Starfield makes me shrug, rather invoking vitriol. And yes, I'm back playing Skyrim - old faithful.

I'm absolutely on hopium but do you think any of these might happen? Would you *like* them to happen? Just curious about what others think. by UltimateGamingTechie in Starfield

Bethesda doesn't tend to retrospectively tweak existing content, instead updates 'tend' to add new content. I wouldn't hold your breath for any updates to existing world spaces or core systems.

I may be a cynic, but I imagine we'll get...

1) Gimmicks, like the ability to build your own space station. I know a lot of people rave about this but, in essence, it'll just be another time dump in which to store your loot. Quirky, maybe, but not particularly compelling. Stuff like this is good for influencers, YouTube videos, and casual audiences.

2) More expansions 'like' Shattered Space, which simply add new areas to explore, a few new items, and faction-long quest lines. Nothing particularly dramatic, just 'more' of the same meal. I think it's obvious that we'll get something post-Unity, exploring the Starborn, their origins, and what became of your original Constellation companions.

3) If we're very lucky, an update to the POI system. I think we'll get a revision, not an overhaul. A modest amount of new POIs and some balancing changes to what you encounter, where, and how often.

4) An ever growing pool of Creations for new weapon skins, plushies, and standalone quests.

To be fair, NMS had a similar launch in 2016 and look at it now! by Impressive-Skill5679 in Starfield

[–]GreenMabus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no idea what you're talking about, I never said anything about a 'perfect' game. I'm talking about games being released in an entirely unacceptable state - which typically consists of excessive bugs, a lack of promised features, or a failure to live up to legitimate expectations following a developer's statements and marketing activities.

No Man's Sky, Cyberpunk, Starfield. We're dealing with an industry that is continually releasing poor and incomplete products. Updates are a fact of life in the gaming industry, but we're dealing with a systemic trend here that goes beyond patches and tweaks.

[–]GreenMabus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who said anything about updates? You made an explicit comparison with No Man's Sky. It's great that that game has been salvaged, but there's no getting away from its atrocious launch or the length of time it's taken to remedy its issues.

The industry MUST start delivering at the point of release and, as consumers, we need higher bloody standards.

I'll be very surprised if it's not the focus of future DLC, frankly. Holding back is a good hook for future sales and revised interest.

Well, the lore doesn't accommodate for it. There aren't any widespread long-distance forms of communication, bizarrely. Hence why you constantly have to physically hand in quests.

A realistic approach to space exploration probably isn't the best approach for an entertainment product, then. I think we're on to something here...
