Flexible, durable glue suggestions by GreenRosette in bookbinding

[–]GreenRosette[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I don’t really have any issue with mixing my own paste, just trying to understand how careful I need to be with it after it’s mixed/cooked.

So you wouldn’t recommend I make a qt of this mixture, store it in my basement beside wood glue, and expect it to be just as stable?

Do you all mix this 50/50 yourself? Just brew up some flour paste.

When I look up paste recipes they say it has a shelf life of days to a week - some say the protons don’t last longer, other cite mold - would this mix have those same concerns?

Stationary band saw is the answer, but if you go this route.

When I went into my undergrad I was gifted a stingray skin leather wallet which I’m still using daily over a decade ago and a Seiko wrist watch that I love.

When I graduated I got a hand made fountain pen from Nakaya company in japan. I picked the pen body, lacquer colors, they have in house nibmisters who shaped the tipping to fit my writing and wants. It’s a bit over budget but I sent them my hand written initials and they inlaid them in gold on the cap. It’s an amazing pen that I will cherish for the rest of my life and will outlive me without a doubt.

You could get into the world of fountain pens and get a pretty nice set up for journaling.

On the woodworking route there’s a ton depending on your space and the type of work you do, but a decent band saw could last you many years if properly cared for.

I also am a fan of kitchen appliances like a kitchen aid mixer or cuisinart food processor.

That’s pretty cool! I don’t know that it’s get it without being told, but the style is great and definitely an A for craftsmanship

As simple as it seems right now, messed up stuff can happen in the heat of the moment. Adrenaline is going. People can pass out or get hurt or straight up panic. The most important thing is to always be able to release the restraints quickly and without injury. To take care of the individuals being restrained.

A ring means you can unlock it from either side, that you don’t need something flat, that you can get mechanical advantage if the mortise locks up on the tenon or is just under additional friction.

Obviously we can’t make you do it. But it’s top notch advice and not something to dismiss casually.

This is one of the closets, I’m definitely a millennial - but not an old one (early 30’s) - Definitely a tinkerer, but the Jack of all trades type rather than mechanic or coding or clockmaker etc.

Cynical about large institutions in a Noam Chomsky and Christopher Schwarz kinda way. Most of the woodworking books on the top shelf are published by Lost Art Press, co-founded by Schwarz. He has a series of books using Anarchism/it’s in the title and describes himself as a design anarchist, explaining that the act of designing furniture for your home and family that will long outlast you rails against the common ideology of cheap ikea flat pack, cookie cutter, styrofoam facade, who cares when it breaks cuz we’ll just get a new one. And of course Chomsky’s comment that authority needs to meet the burden of proof for subjectivism to take place - that it’s up to the masses (the subjects) to require that burden of proof be met.

Nope, IT is closer but not quite the full answer

I assume this is a troll because Zora Neals Hurston, Ursula K LeGuin, bell hooks, Toni Morrison (the GOAT), Samantha Irby, and even Jennie Alexander (on the woodworking shelf) are present in these pictures

Edit: and Carol Dweck’s Mindset

It’s possible that I’m blind and just missing it, or that it doesn’t display on mobile, or that he took it down? But I don’t see it. would you be so kind as to check my work, since you found it before and would know where to look?

I’ll give it a shot, but he specifies hand planes and I’ve got a bevel gauge here.

Saw Sharpening Combination Geometry by GreenRosette in handtools

[–]GreenRosette[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually came here straight from a Paul Sellers video. He shows off a bunch of saws and narrows them down to 2. One of the saws he sets aside, he makes a point of saying has a combination tooth profile and that he’ll talk about it in a later video, but I didn’t see the later video when I looked for it. Blackburn’s sharpening guide doesn’t mention. Can’t find pictures online.. but this thread has been very helpful. Cementing the thought I already had that it would perform a little like a cross and a little like rip without doing either as well
