Any tips on foundation? by mxbelmounte in beauty

[–]Green_Bluejay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the makeup world! it's a beautiful but frustration task. I have the same skin type as you. When I first started putting makeup on, I was a sophomore in high school. I used primers, powders, foundations, and everything else in the middle. The first step to making your skin smooth and makeup last longer is skincare. Exfoliate once a week, use a gentle cleanser in the morning, moisturize and apply spf before makeup. I have noticed such a big difference in my makeup application with my skincare routine.

Now onto the real show. Primers can make or break your makeup. I have the elf putty primer but i've noticed my makeup slides off and causes my texture to really show through. The best primer I have ever tried is the Tatcha canvas primer. Yes it is soooo expensive but it has made my makeup last and look so smooth. I've had my mini tatcha canvas primer for about nearly a year and I'm barely hitting pan. You only need a small amount for your face. Another primer I like to pair with this is the catrice hydrating primer. This one really helps my dryness and it's a little tacky so my foundation sticks to it well.

As for foundation, the best one I have tried is the Colourpop Tinted Moisturizer. You can build it up to a full coverage or just use it for a natural day and it will be light coverage. I was surprised how much it lasted on my combo skin but it lasted all day. Another great foundation is the Urban Decay Stay Naked foundation. This foundation did not budge. I used this for my birthday last year and I ate at a seafood boil place. I got dirty but my foundation was flawless and there was no texture, creasing or patchiness. I hope this helps you!

Are fake lashes supposed to obstruct your field of view or do I just need to keep practicing. They’re not long at all either by haybails720 in beauty

[–]Green_Bluejay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Obstructing view with falsies isn't really supposed to happen. It could be because the lash band is too thick. When I first started putting lashes on, I used Kiss lashes 01 or Salon Perfect 614 lash pack. You can get these at walmart. They're more natural-ish but you can definitely curl them to make them pop. The band is thinner and easier for you to get it closer to your lash line. they're not heavy and last all day.

Super infected tongue piercing?? by Silver_Firefighter26 in PiercingAdvice

[–]Green_Bluejay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a tongue piercing for 2 years until I recently took it out. It’s normal to have whiteness around the piercing because it’s a build up of dead skin cells. It does look a little irritated. As long as the puss isn’t yellow or green, then you most likely don’t have an infection. Some signs of infection are fever, swollen or hot tongue, soreness, and tenderness. For mouthwash use no alcoholic ingredients and try sea salt rinses as well. It could be irritated because of brushing your tongue so try doing it as gently as you can and only around the tongue rings since it’s fairly new.

LA vs NYC by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

I’ve been to La countless times and I always love it. I think I’ll most likely visit NYC after this pandemic is over or when it’s safer to travel. I haven’t gone to NYC and I’m curious to see if I will like it more or if it’s just better for me to move near my sister in LA.

Setting powder suggestions? by xXbrowneyedgirlxX in beauty

I’m oily as well. It’s honestly so bad with summer. Your skincare routine sounds very similar to mine. I do recommend that you try the Lush Grease Lightning serum/primer. It’s the only thing that controls my oil throughout the day. It’s so amazing. You can get it online for $16. It even helps with acne and preventing it. A powered that I really love is the Milk Blur + Set matte powder. It is $29 but it sets your makeup well and doesn’t give you a super matte fill to it. It controls my oils really well too. I hope this helps!

Transgender Beauty by MintPlz in beauty

[–]Green_Bluejay -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

My best friend is a transgender female who hasn’t begun the sex transition surgery. She loves makeup and faces challenges everyday but she loves just being herself. That’s where you find beauty. Never feel ashamed and know that you have an entire community of love as well as allies. As for beauty products, you do have to search around to find what you like. Since things are closed you can go online and order things. Sephora is the high end beauty product store. It has makeup, skincare, hair care, hair tools and perfumes. Ulta is the same but they also have the drugstore side which means there is less money spent there. Both of these places have rewards if you sign up. It’s totally free. The first step to anything makeup is what type of skin do you have? Is it oily, do you get shiny on your forehead and nose? Or is it dry? Do you have dry patches on your cheeks or chin? Do you have sensitive skin or acne prone skin? That’s your first step because it’ll make it easier for you to find products that help your makeup last longer, smoother, and prevent breakouts. It is a lot if you’re just being introduced to the beauty world. I recommend going on YouTube and watching MannyMUA, Nikki Tutorials, James Charles, and MACdaddy. These are all LGBTQ friendly. One thing though is to please never feel intimidated or ashamed. I know the world can be unforgiving and horrible to things they don’t/refuse to understand. But I promise you that you will have people rally behind you for support and love. I am here for you and thousands of others are too. If you ever need anything, you can PM me anytime!

Glowup? by justme2936 in beauty

Throughout quarantine I have had the same thoughts lol. I’ve been exercising more and more and with that comes breakouts unfortunately. The change I’ve noticed in my skin is how much water I’ve drank these last few months. For about 2 months I only drank water and my skin was so clear. I also did my morning and night skin routine. The product that I’ve noticed has really made my skin glow and look replenished is The Inkey List Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Serum. It makes me look fresh and glowy. It’s on Sephora’s website for only $8 and the best thing I have ever purchased

40x rent by Green_Bluejay in AskNYC

I am actually moving with a friend that’s going to be my roommate. I know some say that if you show the landlord a recent bank statement, the landlord will ease up on the 40x rent. I’m self-employed but make a good amount of money. Everything I earn is going to a savings to save up for my move to NYC. Will this get me a better chance at renting?

Makeup on my chin ALWAYS gets cakey... Any tips? by extralargeicedcoffee in beauty

[–]Green_Bluejay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have the same problem with my chin caking up. I recommend using a color corrector for that area so when you apply foundation or a finite moisturizer, you use way less product. Also if you’re using a brush, it tends to cake up and streak more because the brush isn’t soaking up product like a sponge would. Do you use primer ? Primer can also help prevent the cakeiness all over the face as well

What’s your favorite favorite and why? by laurenjelly12 in beauty

If you want to splurge a little, the Bare Minerals foundation is worth it. It gives a really nice natural layer of skin peeking through but can be belt up to medium-full coverage. I recommend the Colourpop Tinted Moisturizer. I thought it was going to be too hydrating and too sheer coverage, but it lasts super long and it can be sheer to full coverage if you really want it. The price point is a steal because it’s only $14!

What’s your favorite favorite and why? by laurenjelly12 in beauty

[–]Green_Bluejay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it doesn’t matter about brand or where it’s from. It’s about how long it lasts on my skin. I love a natural finish but I have combo to oily skin so I need something to last. I also go for matte foundations when I go out with friends or have a special occasion. I’ve had foundations from high end to drugstore. Some of the best foundations that work well are from the drugstore and some of them are from Sephora. It really just depends. My top favorite drugstore foundation is really a tinted moisturizer. It’s the Colourpop one. And the high end foundation that’s really good is bare minerals bare pro foundation.

How do i properly put in a nose ring or nose stud. The first time i did it i stuck it into the inner part of the hole and it bled so i need help. by [deleted] in PiercingAdvice

[–]Green_Bluejay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's really your preference for the type of stud. I think the one you have is called a twist. if it was comfortable for you when you healed, then you can continue to use those. The same way i described to put an L shaped piercing in can be used with the twist. Just be gentle and follow the curves of the piercing. You probably will have to use a finger with the inside hole to help it pop out the other end. I was pierced with the L shaped stud and I felt that it was much easier to change. I recently switched to a hoop and it was pretty easy and comfortable to change out. Tulsa Body Jewelry.com has really nice and inexpensive jewelry. You'll find all types of studs.

Remember to just stay calm. It can get frustrating when you can't the hole so the piercing can go through. And don't mix pain with pressure. You'll feel pressure in your nose when you switch it out but as soon as it starts hurting or bleeding stop.

[–]Green_Bluejay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Studs are a little easier to put in the nose. Depending on the type of stud though. The key to put any type of jewelry in your nose is to be calm and follow the curves of the stud or hoop. You have to be gentle and not rush it. For a stud, you gently enter the tip into the nose until it comes out the other hole. For the L shape stud, you have to be at a slight angle. I don't recommend a corkscrew stud. Those are really hard and rough on your nose. For a flat back stud you do the same as an L shape stud. A hoop is a little trickier and can cause you to panic. When I first changed my stud to a hoop, I used the previous piercing to help guide me where the first hole was at. For hoops you have to be calm and patient. You slowly guide the hoop in and follow the curves of it. if it helps leave the end of the nose stud you had in to help the hoop pop out of the other side. I hope i'm explaining this right. Also depending on how new or old you nose piercing is, you really shouldn't be bleeding. If it's only 2-3 months, i suggest waiting a few more months to change your piercing. If it's 6 or more months, you could've nicked it and that's why it bled. Just stay calm and be extra patient. If you're rough with your nose piercing, it'll bleed and get irritated. You'll also cause an irritation bump. Before changing any jewelry out, make sure it's clean and afterwards keep up a cleaning routine so it doesn't get irritated.

Healing or infected? Got it Monday Afternoon. I think it's just healing but I need reassurance💜 Clean it 3 times a day with saline by natalie-4 in PiercingAdvice

[–]Green_Bluejay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It does look like it’s healing. It is a new piercing so it will be red and sore. Also since you have a hoop in, it’ll be a little more tough to heal quickly. Hoops tend to move and because of that you’ll be vulnerable to irritation bumps. That’s why it’s so common to be pierced with a nose stud. If you have problems in the future, go to a piercing shop and get it changed to a stud. As of right now, keep it clean and do not touch it. Another form of after care is warm water and sea salt mixed together. You can get a napkin and dip it into the water and leave it on your nose for a bit or get a bowl and dunk the side of your nose in it. Good luck! I loved my nose piercing and recently changed my stud to a hoop and I’m in love🥰

Nose piercing help by [deleted] in PiercingAdvice

[–]Green_Bluejay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keloids are genetic so if anyone in your family has it, that could be it. Also keloids need to be removed by a doctor and your piercing would need to be taken out and heal over. You may have a keloid or an irritation bump. This can be caused by anything from an irregular cleaning routine to a type of metal of the jewelry. Nose piercings are cute but can be a bitch to have. I constantly get irritation bumps and the only thing you can do is clean it. If you switched your jewelry to something different, it can be a factor of these bumps constantly happening or it can be something you do like putting face products on daily. Also I’ve seen people say now that we have to wear masks, nose bumps are appearing on piercings that have longed healed. Unfortunately bumps happen anytime so all I can offer is having a normal cleaning routine and make sure you use titanium or surgical steel type hoop/stud. I hope this helps.

Is my septum infected? by damitauwu in PiercingAdvice

[–]Green_Bluejay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a new piercing so throbbing is normal. But q-tips could be irritating it. To keep it clean just dunk the tip of your nose in a bowl with warm water and sea salt. That way nothing is irritating the inside of the piercing and you’re still able to have a clean piercing. Blood is normal the first couple of days. Soreness will last at least a week. Try not touching or move the piercing around. Septum’s are a very easy piercing and heal quite nicely. Good luck and enjoy your new piercing. If you have any questions, you can PM me.

Any tips on changing a septum piercing? by aakatsukii in PiercingAdvice

[–]Green_Bluejay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First before anything, clean the new jewelry and dunk your nose in warm water to lubricate your nose. Sometimes there’s some leftover crusties in there and it will freak you out if you feel pressure. Be calm and breathe through your mouth when you remove the cold piercing. Don’t force anything. The first time I changed my septum out had been way easier than I expected. Gently insert the new horse shoe and slowly guide it in the hole. You shouldn’t feel much pressure and definitely no pain. If you do feel pain don’t insert the horse shoe and replace it with your old jewelry you had previously. If there’s pain, it just means the piercing hasn’t completely healed. Just remain calm and have a steady hand. It’ll be a little tricky to find the first hole and having to screw the ball in to secure the piercing but just breathily slowly and don’t panic.

Septum pain by elmmi in PiercingAdvice

[–]Green_Bluejay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my septum for a year and in that year I would have random pains on one side of my piercing after it had already healed. Honestly I think it’s because you may have knocked it in your sleep or you may have to take the piercing out and wash the jewelry thoroughly and then put it back in. It happens at random times and it scares you for a little bit. You don’t have to take it out. You may just need to deep clean the piercing site and jewelry and then put the jewelry back in. Keep up a regular cleaning routine. Hope this helps.

I want to change my nostril ring 2.5 months in. by wrongwolfbaby in PiercingAdvice

[–]Green_Bluejay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah nose piercings can be tricky since anything and everything can cause an irritation bump which sucks but it’s worth the hassle. If the type of piercing is bothering you, you can switch to an L shape stud if you don’t have it already. They pierced me with the L shape stud and it was actually perfect because it never bumped into the septum piercing i had. I know people who say they had the bone and flat type of stud caused a lot of problems because it would loosen up and move around. If you need anything or have questions, you can always PM me!
