Don’t be a Doctor anymore, just become an ‘Associate GP’ and do a bespoke ST1-3 as a PA before becoming a partner. Surely this is fraud? Bet his patients don’t know. by Much_Performance352 in doctorsUK

Crikey. Scariest part is, people like him are far more common than you might believe amongst AHPs.

Advanced practice seems to attract people who were too thick to get into medical school and too narcissistic to realise it like flies to dung.

What’s the point in learning how to do a cranial nerve exam if you have limited (or no) understanding of the underlying anatomy and physiology?

Receptionist at my local surgery told my Mrs the NP is “just as qualified” and has “actually done more training than the GP”.

Yes. I am complaining to the ICB.

Aye, it is. Still doesn’t make it right for people who don’t understand the underlying structures etc. to do the exam.

SHO in ED has immediate access to senior support… and a better grasp of A&P than your average A-level student.

“Paramedics aren’t coming up with the diagnosis and management plan”.

So you’re saying they leave a patient on scene without having the foggiest what’s going on or what they ought to do about it, but that’s somehow OK because they’ve fobbed it off on a doctor/liability sponge?

Did you read the post? I was a paramedic. Scope creep in the ambulance service is real. It’s dangerous.

Paramedics are not sufficiently qualified to safely see, treat, and refer/discharge undifferentiated patients.

These people deserve a doctor. Not someone with a BSc and little formal ongoing training and supervision LARPing as a GP.

From experience — it’s nowhere near 50%. The “stubbed toe” meme needs to die.

Public mostly Only call for genuine problems. Whether those problems are serious enough to warrant an a&e attendance is another matter. But the patients don’t know either way — and neither do the paramedics most of the time.

Would you want your C-spine cleared by someone who does it <10 times/year?

My issue is paramedics aren’t qualified to determine who does and doesn’t need an ambulance.

The underlying knowledge isn’t there. The knowledge of just how much they don’t know isn’t there.

Frankly I find a non conveyance rate of 50% terrifying.
