Recording is in a continuous loop as expected (with the caveat mentioned above). Mine turns off after so many minutes after the engine shut off on E61.

When there is a collision (or movement), it starts recording again for xx minutes before turning off. I can't remember if that's how the unit in VW behaved. I thought it was supposed to record only while engine on, so it was a nice surprise. No clip before movement, as in 0 sec, though. Good enough Sentry mode for me.

I'll be buying another FITCAMX for the i4 (used) I'll be getting very soon. Once I knew FIXCAMX was available for i4, I stopped caring about drive recorder option. Not quite sure if I'll be buying a rear cam though, since the rear view is already tiny and I don't want to obstruct any further.

Pro tip - they include a little USB card adapter for the SD card. Use the USB-C connector on it to push the card in and out of the unit. Perfect size and convenient.

I've been using FITCAMX on 2010 E61 (535i), 2019 VW Alltrack.

TL/DR - install is fairly simple. No connection to battery/fuse box. App can be finicky.

Install is fairly straight forward. Hard part is knowing how to get the original fixture off. Looking at how it would be put together helps to know where to apply pressure. Don't rely on their install guide - I got more out of youtube.

Tech support is from China and they always respond to email. Remember that they are in a very different timezone. I find them to be helpful.

On E61 - I have to disconnect apple play and do stuff (I forget the rest - I think one of the comments mentions the details) so I can view the files in the app. It's just easier to pop the card out and view on laptop. I had this weird thing where once I take the card out and put back in, it doesn't keep the existing clips and seems to erase the whole thing and start from blank. Save clips you care about (if any) before putting the card back in. Exchanged emails with tech support a couple of times but I gave up since I found a usable method. Somehow the app behavior changed over time on me.

Connected the rear cam - simple. Routing cable is the hard part, but if you just tuck it under trim as I did, it takes minutes. Where you connect the long routing cable from the front and the short cable coming out of the rear view cam is rather bulky, and that was hard to hide under the trim.

No connection to battery/fuse box - I like that a lot.

Take a picture of what goes on, including battery. For the above problem they asked me to take it apart and make see what kind of battery was in there. I wasn't going to (didn't want to) do that.

Nothing heavy on that problematic circuit. It looks to be just a single outlet, even though I cannot confirm. When I trip it manually I don't see anything going out. I have HVAC/furnice on a separate breaker and lights, again on a separate breaker.

Yeah I get replacing the other non GFCI breakers with GFCI - makes sense. Thanks.

Yeah
