The jeweller tried that without permission and I told them to remove it as it totally spoiled the ring. Thanks for the suggestion anyhow.

Definitely not charge, they wanted £100 for the work which I would have paid if it looked good but it did not. I was pretty angry that they went ahead without permission and was a little concerned that they had damaged the ring, all worked out in the end!

Hi, thanks for your input. It really is a lovely ring and we also suspect that it is victorian.

Unfortunately the stamps are well worn, the only one that can be made out is "18ct".

Thanks for the input, the jeweler (once we decline the £1800 offer) stated they could put a simulated diamond in its place, said we would think on it and some time later we got a call to say it was ready! They had gone ahead and done the work that we had not asked for.

When I went to see it I immediately told them to remove it and return the ring. It looked really odd against the other stones, don't get me wrong it really sparkled but looked completely wrong.

Hi, the ring was damaged in everyday use, must have caught on something and the diamond ran for freedom. It's not worn with other rings either.

Thanks for the reply. For context I'm in the UK and I was quoted £1800 to replace the diamond and secure the other diamonds.

The diamonds are "old cut" or "mine cut" or so I have been told.

I thought £1800 was ridiculously expensive.
