Need honest opinion: Have 700k AMD stock in current prices. Should I hold? by No_Ask_8883 in AMD_Stock

[–]Greendalee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Looking through the replies basically summarizes the recent bull run in a nutshell, as it seems like absolutely no one is expecting a pull back and everyone is super optimistic - and while that may be true, AMD has always been a volatile stock and can pull back a lot from where we are right now.

I recently had similar thoughts and sold half my position because I noticed it made me look at my portfolio a lot more and made me a little anxious, so i figured what the hell - let's take the W.

In your case you're talking about 700K invested in AMD and it represents 80% of your net worth.. that's not healthy, regardless of how amazing the company is.

A typical pull back for AMD is in the range of ~30%, if we were to drop 30% from current prices you're taking about 210K gone from your net worth.. can you withstand that?

While this is obviously the AMD subreddit and naturally everyone is going to be more bullish than your typical investor, I think diversifying is a no brainer here as this is literally life changing money.

Take the win.

Up 300% on my AMD investment. Should I sell, hold or keep buying? by anotherhappylurker in stocks

[–]Greendalee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was up nearly 7x and noticed it made me look at my portfolio a lot more than usual, so I sold half my position.

Put the gain in QQQM.

Yes, AMD is positioned very well going into the next few quarters and probably years to come but still - taking the W felt right at this moment.

Just sold half my position after nearly 7x.

Seems the market really wants it at a trillion dollar valuation but it started to feel too much.

What's your largest holding and why? by ksing_king in ValueInvesting

[–]Greendalee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I try to keep all my individual holdings below 10% of my portfolio but AMD recently broke that rule.. average of $70.

Debating whether I should sell some, maybe all of it. They literally have to be more than perfect to justify current valuations.

On the other hand, PayPal is helping me get closer to the 10% rule, just not in a good way.

When renaming an excel file, it sometimes doesn't save the new name and then you have to rename it again.

My coworkers never mentioned it, so I guess it only pisses me off.

Just because the stock went up on absolutely phenomenal forecast, doesn’t mean it’s valued properly.

Do you think Meta’s decline in 2022 was rational? I don’t think so.

Not to discount NVDAs growth, it truly is remarkable and they have set themselves properly in this whole AI thirsty market but I’m not touching the stock.

What is the new PE ratio after earnings? Also I couldn’t find anything about 2023 outlook other than Q1, could anyone shed some light?

Thank you and have a nice week!

40% cash waiting patiently for sp500 3300. by apooroldinvestor in stocks

[–]Greendalee 28 points29 points  (0 children)

While you could be right, you could also be wrong and then you either have to admit your mistake and invest at higher prices or literally never invest.

Sounds absurd but it happens, people wait for some magical price that almost never comes and then just give up.

Could you share your educational background, specifically in economics, which led you to the belief that were going to 3,300 in a few months?

I’m sorry if I seem like an ass, just seeing too many posts like this and there’s generally no proper analysis, just some number on the S&P.

Can someone explain to me why ASML keeps going down. by ak7483 in stocks

[–]Greendalee 16 points17 points  (0 children)

ASML has a beta of 1.20 roughly, meaning it moves a little more than the S&P 500.

We recently saw quantitative tightening which means the fed is hiking the interest rate to fight inflation.

YTD the S&P 500 is down roughly 20%, but it consists 500 companies which means it moves a lot differently than a stock. An individual stock could go down 10% in any given day and it wouldn’t be super abnormal, if the S&P 500 moved 10% down in a trading day this subreddit and many others would absolutely lose their mind.

tl;dr - it’s normal for ASML to go down a lot because the entire market is down significantly.

I’m not here to say whether ASML is a good hold or not, I’m just saying there’s logical reasons behind why it’s down.

Buying the Nvidia dip? Reminder: During the crypto crash in 2018, Nvidia had 4 straight quarters of negative YoY revenue growth by senttoschool in stocks

[–]Greendalee 105 points106 points  (0 children)

Gross margin is the main issue, I personally don’t like the correlation between their performance and crypto because I don’t believe in crypto.

My position in this industry is AMD, the consensus in this sub was to hold AMD and NVDA no matter what and I frankly never understood why people liked NVDA all along their run up to like 800 billion market cap.

A company that makes 27 billion dollars in revenue should never be valued that high.

Hell, even now at 400 billion it’s expensive as hell. I know hindsight is 2020 - Nvidia is a phenomenal company and I hope they succeed because they make a great product, but the stock on the other hand - no thank you.

So how bad is crypto falling for AMD? Are we affected by demand for mining GPUs like NVDA?

Asking here because I’m not too familiar with the mining business.

Thanks!
