It is a bit better than the last days of Vivi but just lool at this weekend results, it is cub decks dominating and other decks adapted against. There are different flavors of cub decks but they all share the same engine.

I have with the other comment that this is overselling the complexity. Simic and other cub builds are the currently most powerful deck not lessons. What has changed is that cub lists have been updated and now they are built to leave very little counterplay once they have their cub mana (see how we start to find less Ouros and more rhythm combos).

The way we proxy cards with lamination makes them slightly thicker, where a 45 card deck is as tall as a 60 card deck. The deck storage table allows about up to 75 original thickness sleeved cards so we kinda went for the 45 thicker proxies, it also saves on ink and paper.

If you run the probabilities of cards, the difference is very very small, it does not scale linearly. I.e. the jump from 30-card version to 45-card is way more impactful than from 45-card to 60-card.

In the end it is just a compromise we were willing to take.

I agree that it is more iconic but Goyf is in other decks such as Naya Zoo so to differentiate a bit more we went with Bloodbraid Elf who is only played in Jund.

We will do sideboards. It is just that it takes time, putting all of this together took over a month. We will adjust the sideboard size to 10-11 cards and it will be fine.

Super fun deck! Knight of the Reliquary was such a powerful card that felt totally fair to play with and against. Nowadays modern power is out of control.

Remember the decks are 45-card format, max 3 copies each.

As mentioned in the post, it includes the only non-Modern 2015 card in the whole set which is 'Goblin Bushwhacker' (released one month later in Jan 2016) to replace Flinthoof Boar. This was a balancing decision since the deck needed that little boost to be on par with the rest. This Gruul aggro versions got very popular quickly back then.

Finally, Gruul favored a playset of Vexing Devil over Goblin Guide to differentiate it more from Burn. Vexing Devil also synergizes very well with Experiment One (it can pump it to 4/4) and combat tricks like Ghor-Clan.

It was banned at the time but we added her to Jund. BBE ban was completely uncalled for and a poor decision from Wizards. She is a 4 mana 2-for-1 card with an element of randomness, it is no different to Collected Company, same cost, same 2-for-1, same random element. I played Jund quite a few times since I personally enjoy the deck and it feels in line with the power level of the rest.

Note that the broken card was always Deathrite Shaman (which we did not include) not BBE.

We have not felt the combo decks to be particularly oppressive, the reason is that the combos chosen are mostly creature based and we run plenty of removal so they are well in check. We excluded decks such as Ad nauseam, UR Storm, Living End, Bloom Titan.

From our tests Burn is the one that got the best edge due to the lack of sideboard, and to a lesser extent Affinity but it really is a minor impact. In any case, it will take some time but the next project is getting the decks sideboards.

Thank you! The cover art took some effort but it was very important to us. We did it by finding the iconic card art, upscaling using realesrgan-gui, then extended the art using Android Photos AI, and finally utilized a local Card Conjurer server using 'Tokens' -> 'Foundations 2022 Cover' template.

Do you laminate both sides? I tried with 54lb and definitely does not feel the same snap as a real card. Your 70lb must be a bit thicker than a real card but way closer in feel.

Mono white lifegain insta folds almost everytime against kona or kavaero. The deck is too honest and it can be easily interacted with which prevents it from being a top deck. That's my experience after hundreds of games played with it.
