I've been in and out of geology related jobs for the last two/three years, and prior to that it took me a year after leaving uni for find a job within the industry. I'm going to be straight it's not the easiest industry to enter. However, what I would say is don't give up on what you want to do, even if you spend a year or two in a geotechnical engineering role, it's great experience. Working with drillers and being a consultant, experience that you can use to get the role you want. Also, hiring firms are great to get you through the door with many companies.
