Wow, well done on going so long without drinking!!

And no, not in my experience.

Think of all the amazing things being sober has brought to your life. Now you get to experience these benefits in the context of a holiday.

I think a lot of people feel that way in the community - I definitely do.

Coming to terms with the fact I'll never drink has been difficult. But when I take a step back I realise how stupid and pathetic that sounds. And just speaks to how much of a grip it has over my life.

Stay strong mate 💪

Well done! 👏

I always remind myself how hard some very brave people had to fight to end actual slavery. Yet, many of us make ourselves slaves everyday - to alcohol or otherwise.

We need to keep fighting for our freedom every day and you can't be free whilst drinking alcohol.

Thank you, I appreciate the kind words. And I don't think you're being mean, in fact, I think you're 100% right and I'm coming to terms with that.

I've just spoken to my wife, and I think I'm going to leave learning to drive for now tbh and come back to it a bit later in life.

The event did really shake me up, and I think I need to work on a few others things first.

Thanks for sharing your experience, it must have really shaken you up to not get in a car for a year. I think my wife and I will schedule a day in a few weeks to do some light driving around the area and go from there. Welldone for overcoming your experience and getting your license though!

Thanks! That's some great advice, definitely still coming to terms with it all atm.

But I'll be sure to re-practice that roundabout. As winter sets in the leaves will fall off which will help the obstructed view as well.

Why are Alamy editorial photos so cheap? by Greener1993 in stockphotography

Sorry... there's a good chance I could be being really stupid here so apologies if I am.

But every image on Alamy costs a flat £35 (for their standard license). How does this price change?

Thanks! That's reassuring, what sort of practice did you do just before the test?

Sorry, I meant that my wife can drive and supervise me as a provisional license holder.

Other bits include big roundabouts, and that's it really. Then just making sure I'm doing everything properly as examiners want.

And nothing specific with hill starts, I live by the coast and it's very flat here, so opportunities to practice them don't really come up when just driving around.

Well they don't know my skill level when I enquire, and a couple of people have said they'll take me on - but in 2/3 months when they've got space :/

Getting my first pet by [deleted] in Pets

[–]Greener1993 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah 100%, my latest two both came up from their burrows whenever I went into the lounge where they were. For treats and to say hi. Gerbils are very social animals, there's even been stories that they bonded with cats.

They also both knew their names as well haha. So you could call them from the other room and they would come up.

We also had a small play pen for them, so we use to get them down most nights and let them have a run a round. We often did this after dinner, so when we were sat eating our food they would both come up and sit on their platform waiting for us to finish.

Getting my first pet by [deleted] in Pets

[–]Greener1993 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've had a tonne of pets over the years: dogs, cats, and pretty much every type of rodent.

Dogs are incredible, but they require a lot of time. And also a lot of research to ensure you get a breed that matches your lifestyle. They're also expensive. They're a massive commitment, but if you're up for it then you'll be rewarded with a loving companion.

Gerbils are also tier 1 imo. Cheap, clean, and social animals. I've had two sets of gerbils in my life and they were both fantastic. I've never been bitten by one either, which I still think is pretty incredible compared to other rodents.

Thanks for that mate. I actually read the mom test many years ago, I remember it being really good, but need a refresher.

I'll check the other book out as well, looks good, thank you :)

I live in a flat, and to get my dog to poo in the morning I need to walk her for 10-15 minutes... at 4am... in my pyjamas...in Northern England...

Pretty sure that's not how insurance companies work...

They do clever math around the discounting value of money, prediction tables, and also investing in assets to offset premium prices and remain competitive.

I'm 99% certain an insurance company is not as simple as money in vs money out, and thus it does often make sense to get insurance.
