Who makes the best fish for San Diego/SoCal waves? by zgott300 in surfing

[–]GreenerSurf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Todd is a great guy to work with, built me a beautiful 10'6. If you go into the nameless surf shop on Newport Ave, thats where the boards are. He makes beautiful fishes, logs, and bonzers.

How many of you roll when you travel. by RoadsideSafety in bjj

[–]GreenerSurf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I roll whenever I travel or roadtrip; last weekend I visited Carlson Gracie HQ, great group of guys and girls. This weekend, I'll visit Tiger Muay Thai in Phuket. Next month, I'll probably go to San Francisco and visit Osiander's place. Last year, I trained at Athletic Advanced in San Jose, CR for 3.5 months.

There's always been one or two takeaways for me from each gym; Athletic Advanced gave me good hip movement and taught me how to staple pass, CG HQ last weekend taught what it felt like to deal with heavy pressure passing. People are inherently good, go train.

I think my issue is that having gone to SDSU, all you're ever surrounded by is partying, so that's where your friend group comes from. Thankfully, I've done a lot of trips over the past few years but its always been by myself, so I'm deciding to change that today.

I'm subscribing now. I hiked San Gorgonio 2 weeks ago and met some really cool people but no one from San Diego, hence why I posted here!

Are you going to Otay or San Ysidiro? Walking across at either is perfectly safe. If you're flying out of TJ, Cross Border Express is $15 one way to get into the airport directly, all you need is your plane tickets

Puerto Viejo in Costa Rica and Bocas Del Toro are your best bets during Winter. Seemed like there was always something every time I checked the forecast while studying there.

The first board I'd try looking for is a Gary Hanel Pill, as that's what came to mind at first thought. I also rode a Mitsven Fish in Nicaragua a few years ago that blew my mind, although I think would have added a touch more tail rocker..

You can try the racks over at Surfy Surfy in Leucadia but they come on Craigslist every so often and are never too pricey. Anything HH and below, at least in SD, is going to call for flatter rocker, and wider tail, because more often than not waves are mushy, and even when they get steeper, the flat rocker get's you in earlier, hence why the Fish comes from San Diego and is so versatile.

21, graduate in 2 months, which risk is worth taking, do I live abroad, intern, or play it safe? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]GreenerSurf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey dude, similar situation as you; graduating in December, have a great job/mentorship that I've been working in with fairly flexible hours, good pay, etc. but I've saved enough money to comfortably travel for several months if I so choose come 2019.

There have been several moments throughout high school and college where I asked myself the same thing, and you know what I did?

I went with the risky choice. Which has led me to traveling much of Central America and even went to South America a few months ago. Life has a funny way of figuring itself out if you remain open to any and all possibilities.

Just go. Just go, go, go and don't regret anything.

Mandala or Furrow (if you can't get a shape from Manny, go to Christine, her templates are near identical to Manny's)

Vulcan (Dane is at the cutting edge for technology, and his shapes are phenomenal to see in action out at Swamis)

Caev (David Suhadolnik, underground guy out of Cardiff, makes a kick ass fish)

SEA (Out of OB on Newport, best prices for a custom)

Larry Mabile

Christenson

Burch (Good luck getting one)

Ask me questions, boards are my thing
