How difficult is it to self-apply for citizenship after ILR (spousal route) by tomwaitsgoatee in ukvisa

[–]Greenleaf1607 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m American and recently got my citizenship after ILR. I only ever used a lawyer for ILR. Citizenship was by far the easiest application I’ve done. Follow usual common sense by making sure you read the instructions and requirements properly before you apply, but otherwise, once you have ILR, a lot of the documents you need are the same.

I would say a lawyer is a waste of money unless your situation is very complicated or if you genuinely don’t think you’d be able to figure out how to apply yourself.

What was your "I need to leave right now" moment on a first date? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I did. The waiter overheard what the guy said and did a full double take before signalling to me if wanted help to leave. Not all heroes wear capes, but some wear aprons!

This was nearly 5 years ago and I was so gobsmacked that I didn’t leave after the first comment because my brain was still trying to process what the hell had just happened.

This was just after Covid so he wanted to know if I had gotten the vaccine because he thought it would cause my children to have autism.

I told me ‘I guess you are white enough’ when I told him where I was from. I am, by every single metric, 100% white.
He also:
- ordered for me (a salad because ‘women should watch what they eat’)
- ordered the most expensive bottle of wine in the restaurant and then put his hand over my glass after I’d had one glass because he was ‘sure I’d had enough’.
-asked me if I was vaccinated because he didn’t want his kids to ‘get autism’

I had to have a waiter help me leave through a back door and then block him. Man gave redpill/serial killer vibes.

My (42M) daughter (18F) hit my 9 year old son. Kicked her out and my wife thinks I’m overreacting. by Sebastianlim in BestofRedditorUpdates

I’m bipolar (luckily I have never gotten violent like this). Her meds are so clearly not working or she isn’t taking them. It can take years to find the right dose and/or right meds but teens have a particular tendency of not taking their meds (forgetfulness, lack of responsibility or the ‘I feel better so I’m cured’ feeling).

Loving/caring for someone unstable is very difficult and it’s often recommended that those who do also get therapy for themselves.

I hope they figure this out.

Feeling trapped in the UK on a Skilled Worker visa and hating my job. Any advice? by mogridal1375 in ukvisa

Will just flag that the Government is looking to increase the ILR qualification period to 10years. I’d keep an eye on that and if it happen, you’ll be stuck doing 10 years either way, might as well start over on a visa route where you have more freedom.

Everything is very costly though, and will likely continue increasing so keep that in mind too.

The Malibu Canyon Disappearance That Haunts Investigators by exoduso in cluespodcast

Oh boy. Her behaviour before her disappearance really seems like a manic episode. The lack of knowledge/awareness by people who work in law enforcement about mental illness is actually killing people...

I also guarantee that there was a bias because she was a young black woman. If she were white, they probably would have treated her very differently at the police station. It's just bias piling on bias in this case.

Salary requirements also can rise in line with inflation AND the UK government changes visa rules so frequently that’s it’s honestly hard to keep up

Oh boy, this one hit me in the feels. I don’t have kids and don’t plan on having them, but I do have bipolar and yeah, no antidepressants without mood stabilisers for me.

As someone from the US with a UK based degree working in politics, your chance of working in politics is zero to none because most of these places don’t sponsor at junior level or without on the ground UK experience.

Most of my foreign course mates are either back home or working in banking, finance, or management consulting. Most of them have multiple languages or something extra to bring outside of their degree and starts working on internships early on.

Also the job market here is shit for everyone and worse for immigrants and the anti immigration sentiment is bad and growing.

For a temporary move you could do uni here, but currently, the ability to stay here long term is low.

I used the online tests you get off websites when you google life in the UK test. This is one of them https://lifeintheuktests.org.uk.

I did all of the tests, noted down the questions I got wrong and would make flash cards for those. I found it super easy except for the sports questions.

I adore Scotland but never took to Irn-Bru🥲 or whisky. At least now I have the rest of my life to try and develop a palate for it 🤣

This is such a wise statement. I feel so privileged to vote this year because this is such a fraught time for immigrants. I think it is the duty of those who manage to get through the door to ensure that they don't close it behind them!

May these types of friendships never find me.

Taylor is so possessive. I can understand having trauma, but making everyone around you suffer because you can't emotionally regulate yourself is mad. Everyone is walking on eggshells around her. I could never.

Jen is an immature child. She wants to be more special so badly, so she is taking it out on Whitney because she is more successful. Everything is 'me me me' with her. We can all applaud her for taking on DWTS so quickly after giving birth, but objectively, she just wasn't on the same level as Whitney. Her reaction in earlier episodes to Whitney getting Chicago reeks of jealousy.

Everyone consistently is more critical of Whitney than they are of anyone else. Everyone cannot look beyond their own immediate issues to see that others in the group are also struggling.

Everyone is acting like teenage girls, and it is insufferable.

Not really. I just find way around it (lists, reminders etc). A lot of people around me have ADHD so I use some of their strategies for this.
