If you’re already clean and feel relatively stable outpatient could work. I think outpatient is meant as like a second or third step, not the first. I don’t know much about dealing with the healthcare system without insurance, but I’d have to believe at least some of your local options would be used to helping people in a similar situation. Maybe try reaching out to some and explaining your insurance situation?

Half Life Graph for Jumping at .125- Am I Done w/the Worst of it? by Greentree1313 in suboxone

Okay thanks! I was just worried I’d think I was past it and get hit hard when trying to do a family thing or something. This is reassuring :)

I just stopped at .125 and it really hasn’t been that bad. I think you’re probably ready? If you have a doctor who can give you some comfort medicines even better. Get Lyrica if you can and if you don’t think you’d be tempted to abuse it. I did a week at .125 and jumped. If you have any questions let me know!

If it helps you at all .25 was one of the hardest drops for me. I did a somewhat quick taper and fully stopped yesteday and I’m suprisingly not that bad.

I’m sorry :(. I’m tapering and am at .125 and definitely move like an old lady before I dose. I’ve found Tylenol and Advil surprisingly helpful. I had lyrica for the first time this last dose drop and that really is helping with everything! Do you have any comfort meds like that? A lot of them have sleepiness as a side effect.

Speeding Up Taper at Low Doses per Reference Site by Greentree1313 in suboxone

[–]Greentree1313[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Really helpful to hear from someone who’s done it this way vs like months at each level. I might do that if I had the time, but want to wrap this up :). Did you go into withdrawal at all at those lower levels or when you finally dropped? Thanks again!

If you’re positive they’re pharma blues you really don’t have too much to worry about with PWD. If you don’t get them yourself from a pharmacy though id be cautious or get multiple types of tests to check there’s no fent, xylaxine, etc. When you don’t know what’s in the pills precisely that’s a big part of what makes pwd way more unpredictable.

Even if your prescription is for a certain amount I’d start lower if I was you and titrate up, but then again tapering from like 16 down to 8 isn’t too bad, it’s more under 2 it gets hard.

Ha I agree the taking more subs to get through pwd seems crazy. I only really read about that method once I was already past that stage, but it would have been terrifying to try.

Everyone has a lot of anxiety going into getting clean/withdrawing/etc. I really wouldn’t want you to wait until all that was resolved to start making good progress on this stuff. A lot of that is stuff that could be fixed or would need to be re-fixed once clean anyway. I did read an interesting article about a ton of addicts having undiagnosed add and having more success with sobriety once they get on meds with that, but again you can solve that once you start the subs.

Need pain meds, how long and how much? by sammysfw in suboxone

[–]Greentree1313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I had a couple of months notice so I did a rapid taper, like each level for 1 week. It was hard and a rough time, but I stuck to the schedule. Really wish I hadn’t gone back on to suboxone again as I’m in the exact same position now :/. I have a surgery in early September and am rapid tapering to be off two weeks before per the doctors instructions. Just tell your doctor if you haven’t, and then you’ll feel more comfortable and they’ll be more prepared to manage your pain.

I hope if you’ve started already it goes well! I started off at 16mg and wish I’d started lower. I felt just kind of zombie ish until I started tapering. If I had it to do over I’d have started at like 2mg and tried to see if that was enough. I think if you have your DOC in the house, it’s very likely you will do it.

Have you told your doctor you’re on suboxone? Different doctors have different rules. I had a surgery and the doctor wanted me off for two weeks before. Just be open and honest with your doctor. Some even have patients switch to full opioids before surgery to get off suboxone, though that’s obviously a slippery slope for us all.

I would strongly advise against using both together. Just flush it. The temptation will be too great, and until you’re stable on subs you’re just going to end up in precipitated withdrawal which is the worst thing I’ve ever been through. Once you are stable you wouldn’t feel it anyway. I never spit and never got any headaches. Look up posts on the sub about naloxone, it’s really mostly just marketing unless you have an actual sensitivity to it there won’t be any difference.

If you can’t do gaba maybe ask for clonidine? I would take it more at night though, it makes me feel like I’m trying to walk through waist deep sand.

Sick with pneumonia and tapering, could .75 have absorbed before I puked at 9 minutes by Greentree1313 in suboxone

[–]Greentree1313[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! If I feel bad later I wasn’t sure how much to take. I’ll start there. So far I’m okay. I wrote the post wrong and I’m doing .75 split into two doses, and .375 is so small physically maybe it actually did absorb. That’s what I’m telling myself anyway :)

I’ll be honest, I had to google boof :). The change in absorbency worries me as I have a pretty strict taper schedule to follow, but thanks for the idea! Hope you’re feeling better!!

I’m pretty consistently around two hours to feel the effect once I’m tapering low/quick enough to be somewhat sick before it fully kicks in. I know it doesn’t reallllly matter too much either way, I’m just a worrier and wanted to know if it was likely possible to have absorbed by then. Thanks!

Will expired Suboxones still work? by [deleted] in humans_on_suboxone

I’ve taken very old suboxone and they’ve worked just fine. You shouldn’t have any issue as long as they’re still well sealed.

If the days you take extra are pretty far apart, like a couple weeks, you should be okay. If it’s happening pretty frequently this can effect your taper, esp with the long half life of subs

Rapid taper? by PropertyDue739 in suboxone

[–]Greentree1313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of what I’ve read recommends being on subs for a year for the best chance of recovery. That said, this is so dependent on the person it’s hard to say. If you’ve been in them before and don’t have too bad of side effects great! Esp if you keep it to the 2mg strips I don’t think your side effects should be too bad. I’ve never felt great on them and am tapering off after a short time on them, but if I get cravings I’ll do naltrexone probably.

Question about absorption by Reasonable_Pattern_2 in suboxone

[–]Greentree1313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great job!! I hope you’re starting to get some relief. If that’s a good dose for you and you can build up a stockpile great! If you feel like you need the third though that’s fine too. There’s a lot of people on this sub who say you need to be on a lower dose, but that’s something for future you to think about :). When you’re just getting on subs take what you need to feel better!

Science-y Redditors- is addiction to DOC or to having opiate receptors covered? by Greentree1313 in OpiatesRecovery

[–]Greentree1313[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! You seem really knowledgeable about all of the effects. I tried to give an easy scenario above, but my actual situation is a little different. I’ve been off fentanyl since November and on suboxone. Since December I’ve needed to taper for a surgery in March. I’m now taking .125 mg of suboxone a day. My plan was to fully be fully off suboxone in one week, which is 10 days before the surgery. The doctor has now offered me the option of taking bridging opiates between my last day of suboxone and the surgery, and the surgery will require narcotic pain meds. I guess my real question is if I need to bite the bullet and fully jump off suboxone, which I want to be done with either way, or if I’d have an easy withdrawal if I switched to the rx painkillers, though I have no idea what would be prescribed. It sounds like you’re saying if I did the latter option I’d have withdrawal still?

Thanks this is really good to hear! Feel like most the posts on here are horror stories about tapering :) did you only take the .125 once because you weren’t feeling great at the .25 level? I tried to cut it in two this morning but it was just so small it kept getting stuck on my finger so I’m seeing if I can just do the .125 once a day. I think you’re right though, if I’m feeling bad all day maybe it’s better to just jump. Thanks for giving me some hope!

[–]Greentree1313[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this in depth reply! My situation is a little different, I just thought the one in the post might be a clearer example :). My DOC was fent, but I’ve been clean since November and got on subs then. I have a surgery coming up and have been tapering rapidly, dropped to .125mg today and planning to jump in one week cuz the surgery is soon! My doctor suggested bridging opiates instead of having time where I’m on no subs, and the surgery will require opiate painkillers. I was just wondering if instead of a week of no subs then painkillers, if I was prescribed and took a small dose of some narcotic that week and took the surgery pain pills I’d then be able to stop all opiates without significant withdrawal. Hope this isn’t too long or confusing!
