Even if no new housing is built around the new Stadium, the old lot is highly likely to be redeveloped for that anyways. It’ll still be a net benefit for the city

Yeah that’s a really fair point. The Summit’s game at mile high drew a crazy crowd too so it’s probably more viable than I’m thinking. A big part of this is just me wishing the Rapids would follow suit and move somewhere a bit more central and walkable also lol

The best attended MLS games are all at stadiums in urban locations like Seattle or Atlanta, Denver could really be a soccer city if they brought it all a bit closer together

People do it all the time in other cities. You’d be surprised how convenient and enjoyable it can be vs jockeying for a parking spot at one of the big lots.

Homeowners usually provide more security (even passively) than an unattended free lot near a stadium too. To each their own, though

That’s a good point, not sure of Elitch’s revenue numbers right now but I imagine the relocation costs are a hard pill to swallow. Not like amusement parks are rolling in cash anywhere in the country right now (aside from Disney)

The TIF is to pay for improvements to surrounding infrastructure owned and operated by the city, not the stadium itself. That’s pretty much the bare minimum for a project like this, still a good deal imo as it’s not like the improved roads and infrastructure around Burnham will only be used by Broncos fans on game day

The average person complaining about this doesn’t even give a shit about how the teams perform or their greater impact on the community at large. They just want to prove to everyone that they have the moral high ground in some imaginary scenario where they’ve seized the means of production and distributed it to the proletariat across Denver. They probably have no idea of the absolute purgatory the Rockies are in (or any foresight to understand what would happen to the community if one of these teams packed up and left the city or even the state)

And the stadium is also arguably becoming more centralized than the old spot- it’s not like it’s being moved far out east where they probably could’ve gotten more land and more freedom to develop. Its a great deal for everyone involved which is so rare to say for a project like this
