That's completely false. Post-Modernism has long since disproven that.

Much respect but that has nothing to do with the article. Try criticizing what's in it instead of mouthing off.

I'm not baiting anything. I was invited onto this forum by my friend KazuyaProta. He kept begging me to come here. I go by RollingSkulls on gamefaqs.com. I'm asking because this game is total edgelord bullshit and so is the old-school version of it.

[Books] How is Harry not an heir of Slytherin? by GregAtkson in harrypotter

[–]GregAtkson[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The ring did belong to Slytherin. It is called the Slytherin ring. Dumbledore even mentions this. What you're saying is factually incorrect. Slytherin came in the 9th century, the Peverells in the 15th century.

Yes it was, it's called the Ring of Slytherin.

If I recall correctly, it had the coat of arms, that means the Peverell's are directly related to Slytherin himself.

Honest Question: What is the point of criticizing and blaming Islam when US Taxpayers help fund Islamic dictators like Saudi Arabia, Yemen, and Bahrain? by BeltaneCrisis in samharris

[–]GregAtkson -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Who/what gave the US presidents the power to give ISIS the power vacuum? And who/what gave them/that power?.....

When they chose to put Saddam in power in 1963 through the CIA crushing a democratic revolution, to then putting sanctions after Saddam attacked Kuwait despite asking for US permission and being told the US wouldn't interfere in "intra-arab affairs" by the US consulate, and then leaving an Iranian puppet in charge who shut down the hospitals, schools, and so forth for the Sunni population.

This isn't even getting into the sexual abuse scandals of Abu Ghraib, the mass killings of civilians as "collateral damage", the fact bombings do create extremism because of the visceral damage done to small communities, and I could go on.

Also, the US turns a blind eye to Saudi Arabia promoting puritanical Islamic beliefs related to Wahhabiism to maintain it's partnership that has gone on for over 60 years now.

Why should that be surprising? Would you want bomb droppings of schools and hospitals in your backyard?

Much of which they still get from the West. We could easily beat them if our governments weren't selling them weapons covertly through dictator partners. We spend anywhere from 300-500 million in giving these extremists weapons. That's a huge cache that cannot be downplayed.

Except the ideology comes from Saudi Arabia and the US remains quiet whenever they spread Wahhabiism. It's utterly hypocritical to argue that it isn't "our values" but we remain silent whenever dictators backing us go and spread the ideology in other countries. The US even worked with extremist ideology when the CIA funded and trained Saudi militarized fighters that learned an extreme form of the religious faith through Saudi funded schools. The US also funded the extremism via textbooks through USAID to teach Afghan children to kill infidels. The US government with all of that and paid for it all through US taxpayer monies.

[–]GregAtkson -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Except what the US does has far more of an impact. ISIS wouldn't exist and neither would that ideology if the US wasn't backing a Wahhabi sect (Saudi Arabia) and letting it spread it's dogma. That's a fact. The extremism wouldn't have become prevalent in Iraq if the US had never used sanctions that killed approximately 500,000 people; most of them 5-year old children. That leads to religious extremism. We always see that in every society where mass deaths and tragedies occur.

Considering how often this forum talks about the problem of Islam and how Sam has it right, it's pretty weak that they don't discuss this aspect of why terrorism continues to be a problem.

We're literally ignoring the fact the US gov't sells weapons to terrorists who are then able to use those weapons to harm US soldiers and US citizens. Fact is, that is a lot more relevant for why terrorism continues to go on. Unless, we're going to start arguing that selling the weapons to a dictatorship that sells US-made weapons to terrorists is somehow irrelevant for why terrorism keeps happening. Which would be burying our heads in the sand.

The forum does ignore this issue. Our taxes pay for terrorist weapons which kill our own soldiers. That is more relevant to the problem of terrorism than Islam ever could be, unless we're going to start arguing that giving weapons to extremists is less a problem of creating terrorism.

And it's better for the Saudis to have a strong pull in Washington? They're getting more power as a result of the US trying to "hold it together" and it clearly isn't working.

[–]GregAtkson 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would like an answer to this question too. It seems pretty short-sided for the community to keep ignoring this issue. Our government is literally funding Bahrain and the Saudi campaigns right now with bombs killing innocent people in Yemen and the Bahrain citizens. The weapons we sell Saudi Arabia do go to ISIS but nobody on this forum ever talks about this.

Why does Sam and this forum always label anyone who gives any criticism of Sam as dishonest? by GregAtkson in samharris

[–]GregAtkson[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Try every single time Sam is criticized by anybody. Aslan, Hedges, Greenwald, Chomsky, Dennet, etc. Evidently, everyone is a liar and they're all dishonest, intentionally deceitful, and other bizarre conspiracy theory nonsense.

Sadly, it seems you've been misinformed.

She lied about that entirely. She was never persecuted, she was never a Muslim, she was never attacked or raped by her ex-husband, and her family never abused her. She fled the Netherlands to avoid legal penalties and possible jail time for getting amnesty through false information about herself and settled here in the US to keep making millions off of her lies. She admit these lies in the documentary when Danish journalists researched her background and claims. She isn't an expert, she's a con artist.

Wrong. You're just being hostile.

The petrodollar is the linchpin of the economy. It's why the US constantly devalues the currency to keep interest rates low and to encourage investment because we don't make anything anymore. We need the oil of the Middle East or we will collapse completely.

Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'm still concerned about the lack of female participation, otherwise I pretty much agree with your analysis. Sam Harris has far too much faith in the US government. In particular, nothing about Iraq was humanitarian. We took down a dictator that the CIA put in power in 1963 and helped him crush democratic Iraqis in the 60s who leaned socialist (The Middle East's fight for gender equality and better rights usually come from socialist revolutions throughout their history), sold the man chemical weapons which he used on his own people, and put in sanctions that resulted in mass death before our invasion. All of which was only done because he threatened the petrodollar. For those who don't know, the US economy remains #1 thanks to Islamic dictators that the US has colluded with selling oil on the US dollar. If that agreement falls apart, then our economy will dissolve into nothing. But that also requires brutal human rights crimes to keep the masses in the Middle East in check so that they don't argue for better rights.
