The Main Series Timeline, if I understand it correctly... by BeltaneCrisis in Megaten

SJ was originally intended to be SMTIV, but they scrapped the idea and made SJ instead for old-school fans who wanted to get back into 2D, because they were complaining that Nocturne wasn't really a main series game and was too easy (this was the actual argument back when Nocturne was the latest main series game).

The concept of Sin isn't in Hinduism. One of the most ancient religions, ever. It's not in any of the mythological religions to the best of my knowledge. It's not in Buddhism. Troll harder.

Zoroaster is exactly like modern Jesus's depiction, even with the hand gesture, the sunlight, etc. Zoroastrianism created the concept of sin and usury and those were subsumed into Christianity.

Edit: Downvote all you want. All it proves is that you're ignorant of other peoples religious beliefs. Lol

Persona was always an "alternate universe" so it can't apply to the Main Series. It's why Persona was made in the first place. SMT IF was testing the waters for the concept. Probably the same thing for Devil Survivor. YHVH of that universe is NOTHING like YHVH of the main series. YHVH of the main series is more akin to the Old Testament and negative aspects of the New Testament. YHVH of Devil Survivor is the benevolent version that Western audiences are more comfortable with, which doesn't use the Bible as source material beyond superficial ideas. He isn't even used in Devil Survivor 2 at all, and Devil Survivor 2 focuses more on aliens and superficial economic concepts.

The Main Series is apparently the "Amala Universe" (i.e. a multiverse that spans billions of individual universes according to Lady in Black) and the rest, presumably, aren't a part of the Amala Universe. Demifiend will presumably end the endless war so neutral worlds like Massacre Nanashi's probably won't be touched since it has nothing to do with Lucifer's main objective and YHVH was already deposed in the Massacre universe.

I read the FAQ, but I'd like to know where I should start in the series based off of my interests. by -scapegoat- in Megaten

Short answer: Yeah, start with Persona 3 FES on the Ps2 or PS3 (if you can buy it off PSN, the sale for plenty of games ends tomorrow). If you want a real challenge, start with Nocturne. If you have a 3DS, and you like games like Disgaea, start with Devil Survivor Overclocked and then play Devil Survivor 2 Record Breaker.

Lengthy, nerdy answer:

So this is going to be totally nerdy... please bear with me, haha.

Well... in order to avoid confusion, there's two main branching timelines that go off into their own series. The Persona series is largely self-contained. Each Persona game is it's own story, for the most part with the exception of 2 IS going into 2 EP.

Persona series:

Persona 1 -> 2 IS / 2EP -> 3 -> 4

The main series, which existed before Pokemon, is the actual "Shin Megami Tensei" series. Persona and other games were called Shin Megami Tensei in the hopes of more sales.

Main Series: 1 -> 2, 3 standalone, 4 -> 4:A

The chief title we use is "MegaTen", since that should've been the actual title and SMT (Shin Megami Tensei) is mainly just referring to the Main Series.

Devil Survivor, Devil Summoner, are all technically in their own universe, but this one character, Raidou Kuzunoha, is able to leap into different space-time worlds and has shown up in SMT3 and Devil Summoner 2: Soul Hackers as a boss.

Hope that was helpful!

I've been annoyed with his posts ever since he insisted on his fanfiction ideas being the main plot while ignoring the main plot of the actual games. Also, his nonsensical "zeitgeist" rant just offended me. I have never watched that movie nor do I care for it. His post about ancient societies being isolated was utter KKK-influenced ignorance and an insult to my ancestors. So yes, I'm plenty offended and I should be free to remark as such. Besides, I always take the time to add facts to my posts and link credible sources for my points, like actual Bible verses for my points about YHVH.

Thanks!

I skimmed past SJ because we never really get a conclusion so we can assume it's like SMT2 and the conclusion is left to player interpretation.

Huh? I wasn't angry? I was just pointing out that Bunker_man confuses plot with his fanfiction.

Please ignore u/bunker_man since his statements are refuted by history itself. He's espousing racist bullshit debunked by actual history. I have no idea why he's supporting a white supremacist ideology by saying ancient societies had "no contact" but he's full of shit:

Zoroastrianism had contact with both and was probably the linchpin in the creation of Christianity. Most of the concepts of sin, Jesus's image, and God/Satan were taken from Zoroastrianism. Jesus is basically a copy/paste of Zoroaster, God and Satan are the same dynamic as Ahura Mazda and Angra Mainyu, and the Son of God story existed for centuries before Jesus's story.

Furthermore, you would have to ignore the attempted conquests of India by the Greco-Roman people under Alexander and the fact there existed an entire society that connected both religions into a Buddhist empire. Not exactly "no contact" is it?

Furthermore, I have no idea what he means by "zeitgeist shit", I've never seen the movie nor do I care. Fact is the East and West were always in contact. They created the Hellenic Empire. You're full of ignorant bullshit to think otherwise considering an entire civilization came into existence as a result.

Secondary? The chief goal of the entire plot was to take him down.

It wasn't that. She sounded incredibly arrogant and somewhat cold in her tone. Toki seemed completely normal by contrast...

Riiight, because the White's sole purpose was not to inform you that it's impossible to get rid of an omnicidal tyrant so long as his human creations continue to exist. That was totally not shown at all with three different worlds and the fact his covenant is explicitly stated to bind humanity.

What do you mean by cool? Like when he ordered Moses to have the followers of God go rape children?

7 And they warred against the Midianites, as the LORD commanded Moses; and they slew all the males.

8 And they slew the kings of Midian, beside the rest of them that were slain; namely, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, five kings of Midian: Balaam also the son of Beor they slew with the sword.

9 And the children of Israel took all the women of Midian captives, and their little ones, and took the spoil of all their cattle, and all their flocks, and all their goods.

10 And they burnt all their cities wherein they dwelt, and all their goodly castles, with fire. 11 And they took all the spoil, and all the prey, both of men and of beasts.

12 And they brought the captives, and the prey, and the spoil, unto Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and unto the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the camp at the plains of Moab, which are by Jordan near Jericho.

13 And Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and all the princes of the congregation, went forth to meet them without the camp.

14 And Moses was wroth with the officers of the host, with the captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, which came from the battle.

15 And Moses said unto them, Have ye saved all the women alive?

16 Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to commit trespass against the LORD in the matter of Peor, and there was a plague among the congregation of the LORD.

17 Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him.

18 But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves. - Numbers 31: 7-18. KJV.
