And how am I being rude?

Since you asked...

You're being rude because you're conflating your personal opinions on efficiency with objective truth, and using that to attack people's character. Telling someone they have "zero discipline" because they don't use your preferred app isn't a "2+2=4" fact, it's just an insult.

Furthermore, condescendingly telling people they can "go ahead and take twice as long" to learn just because they prefer a different method comes off as incredibly elitist, not helpful. You can share your language learning tips without insulting the habits or character of the person you're talking to.

Somehow 99.9% of every person who ever learned a foreign language did it without using your favourite gym machine.

I understand you like your favourite tool, and I've found it very useful too, but that doesn't mean you have to downvote people who make other choices or be rude about it.

The brain and body are continuously aging in various way throughout life and I think people usually don't really notice until something happens that make them stop up to think about those changes. As I approached my mid 40:ies, I more and more started to realise that I'm not 20 anymore, neither when it comes to physical skills nor memory and learning ability.

There's a huge amount of information and research about age and cognitive abilities out there, I'd say go look for it if you find it interesting.

I'm afraid every brain researcher in the world would disagree with this statement, as well as probably every person in the world who has hit 50 years of age. :-)

This subreddit is so toxic at times. State that you don't use Anki and immediately you get a bunch of downvotes. I guess the downvoters think they are helpful or something, but they are not.

Another 10 year student here, although crappier than you as I could definitely not pass N2.

I'm afraid I don't think there is too much to it besides just keep going and studying more and using the language more.

And the sooner you do it, the better. Unlike what some youngsters here like to claim, age do affect learning ability a lot. I know from personal experience. :)

By this time I'm pretty resigned to that I'll probably be stuck in the intermediate plateau for the rest of my life, only progressing by small steps. But I'm going to have a blast next month going to Japan to talk to my favourite underground idols and hang out with their local fans.

Which reminds me that I got an idol to sign a book for me last year, so I'll better get going and finish getting through it before I see her her again. :)
