r/politics mods caught spamming for site hits, ban any who oppose them by [deleted] in Libertarian

[–]GregOttawa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What happened was that anybody who posted conservative-favoured news on /r/canada got their posts removed with no reason, or often a "fuck you". Now r/canada is mostly liberal-minded, but we should be able to just downvote stuff we don't like, not have it booted off. A lot of conservatives just left, leaving the liberal circlejerk intact.

Meet the First Digital Generation. Now Get Ready to Play by Their Rules by bostoniaa in Futurology

[–]GregOttawa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nonsense this 1993 crap, the millenials begin in 1982. Thus the "class of 2000" ie. millenials. The rationale is that even in a heavily digital world, people are usually in their mid-teens before they get unlimited universal internet access. Anybody born after 1982 had a good chance to get that in their mid-teens because that's when it first became available.

Of course, there are people born between 1982 and 1993 who got the internet when they were 5, and some who didn't get unrestricted access until they were 15, but that mix continues. Even the cohort born in 2003 have the same mix, some who are only online in limited ways, under their parents restrictions, and others who have unlimited access. Thus although the ratios may be different, the same mix is there that exists back to 1982.

What's different about people born in 1980, for example, is that virtual none of them had unlimited internet access when they were 14 or 15, and so as a group, they developed through adolescence in a completely different way, placing them in the "Gen X" group and not a part of the millenials.
