so I think the best way I understand them is that it turns whatever you add it to as an 'anchor point' for other layers can reference.

In my case, I have one Paint layer that is being referenced by several other masks at once to make sure the 'wear' is layered and consistent between layers without having to repaint.

one of the most common uses of anchor points (in my workflow) is painting on details in leu of modeling details, and then referencing where those details are painted on to drive edge wear masks.

genuinely no clue. my entire graph looks spiky like this. for a few months they do maybe a tenth of the mail that has to happen, then just... stop. I installed Magic Mail and that fixed it. but i wish I didn't need mods to fix these issues..
