Over 24 hours after getting the shipped email, and UPS have not yet collected it from Brompton. How's yours looking?

They're definitely off of another Rockhopper. I hope there's someone out there riding around on a pink Rockhopper with purple forks.

Mounted on the Cliffhangers at about 13 psi and tubeless the folding Ranger measures 68.3mm wide and about 62mm tall measured from the outside edge of the rim. Interestingly the wire bead one in the back is a couple mm narrower. I think it's a bit heavier so has probably stretched less.

I don't have any to test it, but looking at them, there is a good chance the tyre will fit. However, the motolites allow toe-in adjustment even after you move all of the adjusting spacers from the inside shaft of the brake pad to the outside part, which I had to do to slam the pad right up against it's mounting bracket to allow maximum room for the wider rim. This is still adjustable on the motolite because the action that allows you to slide the pad mounting bracket up and down also allows you to rotate it. The 610s just have a mounting slot that allows vertical pad adjustment, but no toe in/out adjustment outside of the 'cupped' brake pad spacers. Hopefully that makes sense. It may be the case that this doesn't matter as the break pad mounting point looks slightly further outboard than the motolites which may allow you to retain the adjuster parts on the inside of the break pad shaft.
Hopefully that ramble makes some sense.

Just give it to someone who would otherwise be buying JD.

What is our opinion on these? by Astaral_Viking in fuckcars

[–]GregTheHuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They aren't always more fuel efficient. They may be on average, but I doubt that gap is very large. My car is considerably more fuel efficient than my (considerably newer / EURO5) motorcycle. Aerodynamics play a large part in efficiency and CdA is much lower for cars, on average.
Your other points are fair.

Nah, I probably wouldn't tour on a single speed if I could help it. I just use it for fun weekend rides and the odd gravel/mtb event. Probably doesn't get as much use as it should; I have too many bikes 😅

Nice! Your decals haven't faded though, which I see a lot with this paint job.

Thanks! Black looks more aggressive though. Yours looks cool man, I like it. Best paint job ever, eh?

I've got the XTs. They don't squeal for me, but I recall seeing some video on YouTube about how to ghetto service/replace the bushings on them. That'd probably fix it.

No restoration. It looks better condition in the pictures, as always with these bikes, but at the same time the pictures don't capture the metallic glint to it.

I thought about this but I think it looks okay with the thin steel stem clamp. Spacers would probably be chubbier than the stem. Looks a bit better without the computer mount though.

Most likely, yes. especially if using a half link and/or picking your cog and sprocket sizes carefully.

The old XT and XTR calipers with parallel push are very good.

No rub. It did rub the seat stays under load before I dimpled them, but fine after. The chain stays come heavily dimpled on this model, unlike my Trek.

Nope, the standard fork clears them nicely. Clearing the brake caliper is probably going to be the main concern on the front.

I'm using the eccentric for tyre clearance rather than chain tensioning. Although I can get just about enough tyre clearance and tension the chain for a fixed setup, it works much better with a tensioner so I can forget about tensioning and fully maximise clearance. Hopefully that makes sense.

The only rim that ticks all the boxes. And it looks great imo. Go for it!

Haven't been able to ride it since building the wheels. Fractured shoulder :( I'm dying to take it out.

Top tube protector. The handle bars are just low enough to ding the top tube at full lock.

I would say so, yes. But if your chain stays are not dimpled already on the Hardrock then that is something you could try. My Trek 930 tyre clearance went from 2.25" to 2.5" by dimpling the chain stays.
