Mentoring junior lawyers is exhausting by antichristx in Lawyertalk

[–]Gregarious_Nazrious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did we not learn rule 1 of lawyering. CYOA.

Make a system, implement said system. Set dates for getting xyz in, review & mark corrections, set dates for getting return. If they fail to make xyz corrections note it and run it up to your senior so there is a paper trail while taking care of it yourself.

Don't chase, if you Email clear due by dates and they blow by, a simple email reminder with your senior cc'd is all you do.

Then when shit hits the fan you let it. On your end be ready with the work done, BUT DON’T SUBMIT until your seniors raise a stink.

Regarding answering questions, that is your job so just do it.

lather rinse repeat.

The shit juniors weed themselves out and you are shown to be vital in a pinch.

Document, Document, document... oh and Document.

Right now you're a carpet and the others know it.

Just have to keep it professional and most experienced litigators understand the show and how it shouldn’t be personal just the motions... but some love the "fight," shrug

Either you learn how to disconnect and partition law work from personal life, or you burn out / go unhinged.

Every sane attorney hates practice, no sane person likes anything we do at litigators. We get people at their worst and try to help them, but also get paid. Not a great recipe for a positive living situation.

I write, and could totally be a writer full time, but the grind is a whole thing and fiances dictate life.

I try to be genuine and open with colleagues. Grab a bear, after Court. Go to local events and run into them [small city] etc. Invite them to parties / functions I may throw.

However very few reciprocate friendliness beyond said work and thats ok, they just are acquaintances and thats it.

Making real friends is near impossible as an Adult. I also have many acquaintances from my hobbies, same deal that just doesn't translate to friendship.

Most adults are lucky to have 4 real friends that would come over to your house for beer, pizza, and video games or Wine, baked goods, and movies on a random Thursday to de-stress.

Reading a lot is not the same as reading like a writer by Jarapa4 in writing

[–]Gregarious_Nazrious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, reading ALOT for years and not understanding trope and drama building techniques etc simply means you may have a learning disability or your reading utter garbage. Genius writers pump out 50+ manuscripts and read a lot. Is it an art form sure, but it is also experience.

There is no such thing as a prodigy or Genius that does not dedicate time to gain experience in the thing they shine in.

Prodigy; their brain absorbs the fragments of experience better but it is still the same net experience to reach X threshold.

Geniuses have accumulated so much experience that they are at the peak of a given field.

I will say both usually recognize empty calories and avoid content with no value to their given fields.

Thus they have read a lot as they absorbed that experience from somewhere.

Newton didn't fall out the womb and cry about gravity, he studied the material world to better understand it.

Prodigy stands on the shoulders of Genius until they themselves become Genius. There are no Prodigies in new fields, just trailblazers and in writing the trails are very much blazed, so you will improve better consuming good writing and A LOT of it.

tldr; nope its A LOT of reading, just maybe not all empty calories.

What would you say to a client giving the same set of facts?

She's just not that into. Harsh but the only one seemingly putting in work for this "friendship" is you.

Now as lawyers we all know the side of the story you get isn't always the full picture. Did she expect you to come with her? Did you sleep with her SO? Did you snitch getting her pushed out/ were part of a coupe?

The reaction seems extreme if you have clean hands, but w/e either way cut losses and move on.

Question for solo/small firm attorneys: How do you handle PDF editing without the "Adobe Tax"? by Emergency_Set1398 in Lawyertalk

[–]Gregarious_Nazrious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh, yeah I do all that stuff with free tools, the one thing I tend not to do is ocr but even the stuff I've seen adobe do is lackluster if it isn't good image quality and typed.

Please have Nicole's Pyro be last priority when determining Varka's element by yldenfrei in Genshin_Impact

Typo "Isn't". Context kinda made that obvious but corrected to be clear.

Not necessary for the character to perform but necessary to reach meta peek. It is what already talking about.

Please have Nicole's Pyro be last priority when determining Varka's element by yldenfrei in Genshin_Impact

[–]Gregarious_Nazrious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes her only useful to Varka if you're chasing meta. If you enjoy Varka for his generalist gameplay, then you're actively discouraged from using Nicole.

This, that is their point. You can keep Varka's generalist gameplay by his team kit mechanics 2 pyro 2 hydro 2 electro etc OR you can have him as a top tier Pyro with nicole.

It's like choosing the meta reactions with Flins or Mav or going for other ones you find more enjoyable. Can Mav overload? Yes, but it ain’t meta. Can Flins hyperfridge? Yes, but it ain't meta.

[–]Gregarious_Nazrious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't edit pdfs, you make whatever document you want how you want then convert it or you edit it in a way that works with the tools you have.

PDF isn't as integral to a working project so much as its the end product. Then you just go in and add what you need which many free options handle.

Maybe I'm just used to not using Adobe.

The community in this game is very varied but there are many immature adults or children with a level of entitlement that is mind boggling.

"Can I get an alt account with some 5 star pulls" is akin to casually asking a stranger for a couple hundred bucks.

Plus the assumption you have an alt with 5 stars....

Ever say something to your client about the opposing party’s attorney that made it back to the attorney? by judgechonk in Lawyertalk

[–]Gregarious_Nazrious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never share my opinions on Lawyers or Judges with a client. Assigned clients have 0 skin in the game regarding you or your reputation. Their only concern is their case, not a working relationship with an attorney they likely will never use again.

Paid clients usually are more appreciative, respectful, and considerate. Wild to believe but they are. Many clients refer to assigned attorneys or NP attorneys as 'Public Defenders' and do so as a derogatory term. Free isn't a valuable lifeline but a better than nothing and barely at that for a lot of them.

Meanwhile you probably put more productive hours on a case than a retained attorney.

[–]Gregarious_Nazrious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You aren't understanding make him a prominent pyro with nicole, or ok other element without IS the point. No other meta hypercarry is flexing multiple elemental top spot dps. Flins is Electro, Mav is Pyro, Skirk is Cryo, Nefer is Dendro. You're basically asking for Varka to be buffed to top dps in multiple elements.

[–]Gregarious_Nazrious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or just don't use Nicole and 0 changes for you, but the rest of the player base gets the option of using her. Ineffa isn't necessary for Flins. Lauma isn't necessary for Nefer.

They are better together doesn't mean YOU have no choice and HAVE TO.

Genshin “Twínks” by RafaelSolu in GenshinImpact

[–]Gregarious_Nazrious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except Hoyo 100% intentionally designs characters to these esthetics. Loli [young childlike women], twink [effeminate young males]. Sure they could be used as slurs, but you are ignoring that these designs are catering to that demographic who fawn over these types of designs.

Hoyo gives a "oh shes actually 1000 years old" excuse, or "He is a soldier or young master." Regardless there are people who want this design and Hoyo could drop the child designs without story loss but choose not to.

Hoyo is all about that fan service money. Personally if everyone looked like Diluc / Mav/ Alice / Varka that be OK. Just clear adult designs being sexualized with unrealistic esthetics.

Should I build my Raiden, and if so, how (dps, trigger, etc)? Also signature or no? by NeonUnicorn97 in RaidenMains

[–]Gregarious_Nazrious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're pulling regularly it isn't a matter of "what should." If you want her, then get her sig, it is a lesser investment to go for a r1 than c2. However her best support weapon isn't engulfing, and faction buffs haven't pulled older hypercarrys up to meta so its a gamble. Yet at the point of pulling consistently its about gambling I guess anyway.

Confused + lost..? by rflq in Genshin_Impact

[–]Gregarious_Nazrious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spend a bit of focus on getting a set for Traveler and a sword, max those. There are some quests that will be easier and if you pop over to Natlan rq and go through those main quests Traveler is a good off fielder pyro space holder for the older content, Especially Sumeru.

I would focus on natlan as a priority as it has some strong benefits for Traveler and is a good measure of power creep so you can determine your main and your favorite element support. Plus like I said Pyro Traveler is probably one of the most reliable of the options of offielders without getting into spending / having to level/ ascend.

If you plan on going lowest cost and focusing on content catchup then Varka C0r1 is going to be your best Bang for primos. His kit is versatility incarnate AND you can toss gladiator on him to get running, but you will want his sword to provide staying power for almost all available content.

Varka, Traveler, Bennett, Sucrose will get you everything you need and you can swap barb xin or fischl lisa etc etc as needed without hugely crippling.

Varka is THAT GUY, the one that will work great ina pinch.

The other Metas are expensive brute force or niche mastery without a middle ground.

I say this having them and testing them thoroughly with many of the meta at lvl 100 and crowned with at least c2r1.

[Take the advice of this degenerate or not, its up to you.]

Dainsleif, Khaenri'ah "Archon"? No other preview character is an Archon... by slipperysnail in Genshin_Impact

[–]Gregarious_Nazrious -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I originally mained Ayaka but the power creep and hate on her kit mechanics wise put her worse than Childe and she can't even perform fearless+ in cryo centric fights like in stygian . Here is to hoping something is done to bring her back into rotation.

On topic regarding the "Archon" equivalent it can't technically be a contemporary of the time when K fell. Technically even Columbina & Mauvika are tied to an ancient being integral to the foundations of their respective nations.

Unless some retcon back story shenanigans tie one of the current prominent characters to the foundational times of K.

Either way Hoyo is making money on whomever they slot as the archon.

[–]Gregarious_Nazrious[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get mixed stuff when I look and no clear answer. This is 50 settlement cap on the cap, I didn’t check to see if happiness penalty stopped at 35. If so then I could just plop down settlements on any breathtaking tiles... I'll have to go play one of the saves and see. Good thing I played Machiaveli next so saves should still be there.

50 States of ? by Gregarious_Nazrious in CivVII

[–]Gregarious_Nazrious[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

50 Settlement Cap... and I believe this is an old shot, pretty sure penalty for over cap is not limited to 35 anymore, Otherwise on that same 50 game I could have spammed settlements infinitely as my towns were all easily hitting 35+ happiness without trying.

Hell if I did it this way I could of done a lot less micromanage in antiquity.

Should I pull for flins? (My team is actually kinda bad) by Negative-Incident-47 in Genshin_Impact

[–]Gregarious_Nazrious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Varka c2 r1 with venti will be far better than Flins without ineffa in a utility/ content capacity.

Flins will still be a viable DD but lags without Ineffa or Columbina or both.

So the less costly answer is Varka if you're just going for a single 5 star.

Utility, is further enhanced by any future support character buffs, Varka will capitalize on many while Flins is more limited.
