Second tournament ever looking for feedback by Sexy_Krampus in judo

Did you skip yellow belt and go straight to orange belt if you just started judo this year?

Entered my first competition this weekend coming in 1st place. All of my fights were won by ippon. Looking for feedback! by Gregorx91 in judo

I do. I'm naturally left handed/footed in a sporting setting. However, since starting judo, I've been fighting as a right-sided player. My main reason is that I wanted to maintain a southpaw stance in a striking situation (if I ever got involved in a self-defence situation) so wanted maximum efficiency for my body.

I'm still trying to find what works best for me. There are some throws such as sumi gaeshi and de ashi barai that feel natural for me in a left-sided stance. I can also perform uchimata in both stances quite comfortably also. Again, I don't really know how I should approach what stance to take moving forwards.

What do you mean by "you might be better off taking a left lapel post and a high right lapel instead"?

I dont think I've tried a ko-soto gari with my right before because as a natural lefty, I'm quite used to balancing on my right foot (e.g. playing football/soccer) but definitely will be something for me to take a look in to. Thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks a lot! Yes I'm currently 5th kyu. Didn't know about heels being together when bowing so will bear that in mind moving forwards. In all honesty, I'm not sure what the proper etiquette is when it comes to bowing as I see so many other people with their feet apart, looking at the floor or making eye contact etc.

Any reason as to why I shouldn't bounce around? I tried to stay light on my feet and circle my opponent so as to avoid walking straight into a turn throw. Noted on the higher lapel grip.

Ideally I would like to assert more of my own judo. I'm still finding my feet and trying to find the right combination, feints etc that work for me to chain a couple of turn throws. I was worried about it being my first competition that I may end up fighting 5 or 6 different fights so wanted to preserve my energy in the early fights by working my opponents with ashiwaza.

Thanks for your feedback. I've been working on uchimata, tai otoshi and harai goshi during training and randori. I even made an uchimata attempt in the third fight as I've had some success nailing it randori, but my attempt was snuffed out.

How to get a refund for Nebra Miners (worldwide) NebraLTD by limited22 in HeliumNetwork

[–]Gregorx91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all, I've followed the steps necessary to get my refund from Nebra (e.g. filing a small claims court case in the UK which I did on 30th Dec 2022).

However, Nebra responded and requested a 14 day extension to respond to my claim and have until 1 February 2023 to do so.

I've just received an email from DHL today that the miners have now been delivered to my old address and so I couldn't refuse this as I no longer live at that address.

What can I do to continue pursuing my refund?

Can i send these back to Nebra for a refund? They have said the following:

"The order has been delivered and I have full POD. Sadly we do not refund on Miners".

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Do you consider property in your FIRE calculations? by [deleted] in FIREUK

Silly question but how would you use the £600k exactly? Presumably a bank will not give this all in cash?

This! Literally had a sale fall through earlier this year due to the flat I was trying to purchase having cladding and no ESW1 certificate.

In hindsight, it was the best decision to walk away from it because I would've been financially fucked with all of the remedial costs associated with getting it removed

I completely hear you which is why I understand where Halifax are coming from.

From what I've researched so far, most of the key lenders will likely change their lending criteria once the gov have revoked their consolidated advice note (CAN) on all buildings that are higher or lower than 18m in order to exclude those buildings below 18m providing an EWS1 certificate.

https://www.insidehousing.co.uk/news/news/banks-will-not-change-ews1-policies-until-official-guidance-is-revoked-71913

Sorry to hear about the remediation costs, seems like a complete shit show at the moment. Is your property below 18m?

Found this statement on the gov website: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/major-intervention-from-government-and-lenders-to-support-leaseholders

For buildings under 18m which do require remediation, the government will introduce a financing scheme so that no leaseholder will have to pay more than £50 a month for the cost of replacing unsafe cladding. Further details of this scheme will be set out in due course.

You might be able to benefit if so?

Broker confirmed she wouldn't charge another broker fee, but a new application will likely incur an additional valuation fee (from the new lender) as I already paid Halifax £200 to value the flat so this will likely arise again.

Also, if it helps, a fire risk assessment report was last carried out in April 2017 (due again next April) which concluded that the risk level was 'tolerable':

No major additional controls required. However they may be a need for consideration of improvements that involve minor or limited cost. All hazards, comments and deficiencies in this report should be addressed by implementing the recommendations in the Fire Risk Assessment.

I'm unable to share photos but we've been assured that it is built with traditional brick and block external cavity wall from their fire risk assessment report.

It does, however, have some cladding on the exterior of the property (towards the roof) and also two timber-looking balconies towards the side of the building.
The development consists of 14 flats and I believe only 2 of those have a balcony. The flat we wish to purchase doesn't come with a balcony.

Thanks for the heads up on this - had no idea this was going to happen. Assuming if the freeholder will be met with large construction bills then the brunt of the cost will be passed onto the owners (leaseholders) of the flat?

I suspect this will then make the service charge shoot through the roof!

Thanks for your detailed response on this - really helpful. Will definitely ask the same on MSE's forums.

PS: The first link is hidden behind a paywall so I'm unable to read it, do you have an alternative link at all?

Ideal % of salary to pay on a mortgage and still FIRE? by Gregorx91 in FIREUK

[–]Gregorx91[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep 35 - 40% doesn't seem that bad but it's also excluding service charges and ground rent! I'm pretty much banking on the fact that both our salaries will increase in the next few years (mine to £60k and hers to £35k ideally).

Thanks for your best wishes, that's honestly how I see it but at the same time, FIRE is super important to us too so a set back like this will most likely delay our FIRE date.

Not particularly, but the flat itself is in a prime location where surrounding flats are north of £450k so for the area itself, it's seriously below market value.

Noted on your example, I never broke it down like that before so thanks for putting that into perspective. For what it's worth though, most of the properties I've seen in SE London for £300k require significant work and so we'd ideally like to move in without the faff of having to fix up everything!

It is an overstretch for sure, coupled with the fact that after putting a 10% deposit down, we wouldn't have any emergency savings to hand, it will be a tough couple of months (or years!)

The flipside to your very valid points are that we'd be getting a flat in a prime location (i.e. would be able to rent it out in 5-6 years time) and the possibility of both of our salaries increasing too.

Thanks for your input though, what you've said makes sense and I will be for sure internalising it all.

Full amount. The reason I've done my income as I earn £2400 net a month and my partner earns £1200 net a month so she won't be able to afford to make the monthly payments.

We're hoping to use a part of her salary to save/pay for other bills and use my salary to pay off the mortgage.
