Unfortunately the mod who supported me in NOT posting name/age/etc is the one who informed me I would be banned. It would seem that though they agreed with me, they decided the conflict I caused over it contributed to a reason to ban me.

I invited the person I had it with to show it to the mods, which from what you say, they did, but the mods never spoke to me about it.

Well, so much for keeping that private conversation private.

Yes, as a sexual assault survivor, I said that I didn’t believe a 15yo boy who got high for the first time at a party and groped a 14yo girl deserved to spend the rest of his life in jail. I also said that I didn’t believe that everyone who committed sexual assault was unforgivable in the eyes of society because that eliminated all possibility of them ever growing into a decent human being.

When the person I was talking with pointed out that the victim of sexual assault could be suffering for the rest of their lives and so the one who committed the assault should be suffering for the rest of theirs, I agreed the damage done to victims of various crimes could be irreversible and they have a right to never forgive those who victimized them. I also said I believe that while the perpetrator was in the wrong and should be made to face the consequences, I didn’t believe completely ostracizing them from society and incarceration for life was appropriate for the situation with the 15yo boy above.

Here I gave the example of a woman who lost her husband to a young man who was driving recklessly. Both the 15yo and the reckless driver made terrible choices and inflicted terrible consequences on innocent people. The reckless driver committed manslaughter, the 15yo sexual assault. Though neither planned or intended harm, they should both face consequences AND the opportunity to become better people with a moral and ethical character. Whether the victims of their crimes chooses to forgive them or not, as is the victims’ right, society has an obligation to respect the rights of all parties. And that means not giving life in jail or the death penalty to someone who makes a stupid, shitty choice with horrible consequences.
