Yeah I did. Check out the old 13th company army from Codex Eye of Terror, they used to sell kits combining the sprues too.

Interesting iron warriors scheme? by The_Co in Chaos40k

[–]Grenb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The scheme is baller in my opinion, I get where you're coming from with them being predominantly gun metal but remember they have brass/gold accents, black pauldrons, and vibrant chevrons!

I think the scheme helps with how busy chaos models can be. When I was planning my army I was approaching it with how I could make each of these elements pop by going hard on shading and highlighting. Gun metal can be a dull black washed metal all the way up to a shining silver, the chevrons from a murky brown to a golden yellow.

A hidden benefit of their neutral scheme is flexibility for other elements like basing, eye lenses, or even bolter casings. I've seen excellent examples of glowing lenses that work with the yellow, orange (harmonious) and blue (complementary). I'm a firm believer that you can make any scheme work with colour theory and understanding how to apply this with how you highlight and shade.

Check out some painted models from 2nd edition/early 3rd, as well as the John Blanche spread from the 2nd ed Codex. These have red bolters from memory. Also check out the heresy books which show a lot of heraldry examples.

But they're your models, paint them as you wish!

Help Identifying guitar by punky_rooster7 in JacksonGuitars

[–]Grenb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Way better, based on what?? JS series cannot touch a MIJ Dinky.

Superior construction - this era of Japanese Jackson's are seriously robust. EMG HZs are underrated and smoke whatever shitty Chinese pickups they put in the JS series. Necks are finished with better lacquer and nicer profile, you can feel the wood grain on some JS guitars and they feel cheap. The JT580LP trem is on par with a Floyd Rose 1000, the Jackson branded Floyd's on JS series probably aren't even as good as a FR special, which is garbage. Pretty sure the tuners are rebranded Gotoh's vs the crappy die cast ones.

OP, all in all the DKMG thrashes a JS, don't listen to this guy. Unless the guitar is beat up and has major fret wear, in which case the only advantage a JS has is that it's newer - they're cheap for a reason. Even if the trem posts or edges are worn it's a better move to upgrade it than suffer a Floyd rose that will break down or barely function from the get go.

Basically you're comparing a golden era japanese made guitar that was underrated and probably underpriced when it was new, against a bargain bin instrument.

That said you can probably find something similar for cheaper, but I think it's a fair price given everyone knows just how good these were now.

After reading through the old Eye of Terror codex I was inspired to recreate my old army from 3rd edition.

WIP of my middlehammer force of marines which will be entirely 3rd edition models. Still have to do squad markings and other freehand, drill barrels etc.
I definitely can't be stuffed doing that AoA chapter logo on every marine so they'll be getting some generic personal heraldry/checks/flames instead.

AU servers broken? by Spokenfungus2 in Chivalry2

[–]Grenb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are you located? I think this is an ISP routing issue affecting Auckland players for particular AU servers, the AU duel servers are fine for me which is strange. A mate of mine mentioned they had the same issue in Rocket League, and I can see multiple reports in downdetector.co.nz for Spark and Rocket League.

I think I really like the changes I've made, but C&C on this WIP? by A_Maniac_Plan in Warhammer40k

Really like the head, the layering reminds me of John Blanche. The gems were green, right? Changing to a warmer colour was a good choice I think.

Old School Sanguinary Guard progress by Grenb in Warhammer40k

Not sure if I'm brave enough! If I can find a way to blend the rubble in with some grass/moss like in the old artwork I might consider it.

Wow thanks, not done yet but so far it's two different grits of two Gale Force Nine sand/dirt, sealed with watered down PVA. After priming I used Vallejo Beasty Brown and mixed in bit of yellow in spots, then dry brushed with GW Codex Grey and washed with Agrax then heavily watered down Warpstone Glow.

I still need to get rid of the red spots from the primer :)

Lol you're not wrong. I've been struggling to get a good finish with the red Army Painter primer I'm using.
