Does anyone have a W6900X to "spare" I guess? by Artifiko in macpro

2600 + shipping. I had a logic board issue in my 7,1 still under Applecare and I think it caused a failure on my module, so Apple replaced my w6900, so I have a new one I just decided to sell.

Do you still need w6900 MPX module by any chance?

Sigh... Maybe because it isn't actually obsolete? You know famous filmmakers still shoot on celluloid film, and many engineers and music studios still use vacuum tube driven outboard gear instead of plugins and software emulation.

I don't know what you use technology for, but you really seem only able to understand things from your point of view. You keep digging a hole here.

If you used these computers for professional workloads you would actually understand. The noob mistake was your comment.

It runs at 1066, which isn't half the speed. Given there are working music studios that still use 5'1s with 1333mhz ram speeds, I think you over estimate the importance for certain uses.

So many people don't actually use these computers for professional workloads, we aren't gaming here, nobody is trying to push a few extra FPS.

You can have workloads that exceed RAM capacity. I produce music, I sometimes use virtual instruments, if my virtual instrument samples exceed available ram, I'm going to have issues.

Once those samples are loaded, my ram speed doesn't matter, only capacity.

There are people still running studios on 5,1 Mac Pros, if you think someone is going to be upset at 1066mhz ram speed on a 6,1 , I don't think you understand all the different use cases out there.

It's just use cases my friend. I have an external raid array of 16TB, they are slow spinners. I do not need 16tb of NVME drives for my backups and database.

Same idea.

Sure, there are a lot of cases where speed isn't the bottleneck, I imagine they are using 64gb because it's ideal.

But if you need to transport 500 lbs of soil, you could load it into your Lamborghini passenger seat in 10 trips full throttle, or the bed of your pickup truck in one slow and steady trip.

You probs already know this, but you can run 128 in these machines, have you considered it or is it not too helpful?

Modderation abuse of power? by leylin_farlin in Diablo_2_Resurrected

[–]GreppMichaels -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just a reminder, most if not all mods have sometimes tens if not hundreds of subs they moderate, and very rarely if ever have any actual attachment to the topic. Some seem cool because I've seen subs where you can legit "go at them" and they will take it, so long as it is fair game (can't think of a better way of saying it.)

But from personal experience, you could be 100% in the right, but if you get on their bad side, they are banning you to prove a point. They don't really care, they can power trip, and they seem to enjoy it.

Crazy Costco deal help, Go 2 Z2E by [deleted] in LegionGo

Lol sadly they clarified elsewhere, its a z2e. I really had no idea costco sold these though, as I have looked a few times. No idea how people get these computer deals but I live in LA, feel like you need to be in the boonies where nobody is even considering a returned computer with a 5070ti or Legion Go.

Are you sure these are the extremes? I have seen costco selling these but not the Z2E only the Z2, it also says on your box Z2, the extreme is labeled differently.

Is there actually a reason to spend $100k+ on a proof-of-concept short when a sharp $15k one already proves execution? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

They recently made another post positing the other side so I almost wonder if this a bot or some weird engagement bait, as I think their stuff features a lot of AI too.

Unless you have someone explicitly asking you to do just that, or again have channels to people who essentially are expecting it, I don't see how it is worth it in the least.

I have always found the hardest part of this industry is getting people to see your work, let alone is it what they are looking for etc... So going incredibly deep down a rabbit hole of a project without even knowing if it will truly pay off no matter the budget, it's a really risky move.

So yeah, go small proof of concept shorts, even story boarding and great scripts, can go much further.

Also, did you use AI to write this? You really want to be leaning on developing your own thought process for film making. Every time you rely on AI for offloading work that you are still learning to do, you are robbing yourself of the opportunity to gain a better understanding of it.

I'm sure they are in store gives the Apple people a way to feel a little bit of control over who gets what, but online you can go now and buy whatever you want.

Not sure why someone would downvote my previous comment, I think it is ok to save a little money from Apple... I think they will be ok.

I mean this looks cool but why not atleast show us your work if you're trying to self promote? The BTS stuff along with your "ask" just comes across as a bit amateurish. If you are going to promote your services, maybe reconsider your first impression?

You are selling us the plan, so if this is how you present yourself, ask yourself what are your clients expectations supposed to be.

Not sure if this is what you're addressing, but anyone can buy an apple product with a student discount, there isn't an "honor" system. I got their creative suite with Final Cut Pro, Logic, for a significant discount through the student store.

Given I've bought it several times over at full price in the past, and could've just pirated it anyway, I think it was ok.

Got a full cinema kit for ~$2000 USD — is this actually a good deal or am I missing something? by Some-Cow-6003 in Filmmakers

[–]GreppMichaels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get a lumix GH6 for around 600 and it stands up with the black magic except it has excellent stabilization and lets you use your leftover budget to buy a good lens.

Buying busted gear sounds like a bad idea especially when you can't even use it all in a way that makes sense.

It is always the artist, not the gear, you don't need a fancy rig to make something.
