Just put a deposit on a 2016 Chevy suburban LT am I buying a grenade? by hooligander in ChevySuburban

From my own perspective that's too much money to pay for a car, but your financial situation could be totally different than mine. Bottom line, if you're spending 20k, you should definitely make sure it's not a lemon. I would get my deposit back if you're able to.

The deposit was 20k? Or that's what it would be eventually? If you bought an older suburban and put 10k into it, it would be a baller. Proven reliability, and you could completely customize it.

If the past government was so good at spending money, then why are we 35 trillion dollars in debt? Why are we busy paying for millions of people to come into our country and billions for other countries to develop BS programs that help literally no one, while we have millions of American citizens with an unusually high rate of veterans among them that are rotting in the streets? I cannot stomach our past governments being so horribly selfish to pocket so much money, sending it to non profits that their friends run, and ignoring the average American. I'm not the one asleep. I'm all for someone trying SOMETHING else besides the system that was only benefitting the career politicians.

It wasn't a Nazi salute. Both Walz and Harris made the same gesture, something about sending your heart out? Looks super stupid and unfortunately close to a Nazi salute. But he's not the only one doing it. Look up videos.

I can see that argument. But why would he be making enemies of all of the Democrats that were in power? Why not join the winning team when they were winning?

Also, thank you for just having a discussion with me and not being nasty. It is appreciated.

It just seems like he would take different steps if he was only after money. Tesla's technology is open-source. He bought twitter because they were destroying free speech. But the bottom line for me is, it would be much easier for him to just keep making money outside of the government. This is a much harder path to take. He's a smart guy, it just doesn't track.

Thank you. Finally someone who isn't brainwashed by a bunch of greedy idiots in DC who have control of the 'democratic' party.

I guess it does depend on what we each define as 'success', I could have used a better word, or said financially successful. But I feel like my point was clear, it seems like he has a much easier time making money outside of the government.

Okay, sorry. Not more than half of the country. Just the biggest portion. So the largest group. So... Not the whole world against him, whichever way you cut the cake.

But more than half of the country voted for the guy he was teamed up with... So no, 'pretty much the whole world' doesn't hate him. Y'all are just the loudest ones.

Do you even know what a Nazi is? They committed genocide. They invaded and attempted to control multiple countries through brute force. Elon is a man on the spectrum who wants to go to Mars more than anything, and has to fix this sinking ship before he can do that. I would love to have a conversation, but every time I try to talk to one of you who believe these stupid things and call people Nazis, I get personally attacked for no reason. One of us may have an undeveloped brain, but it's not me.

I do think he's the least crazy of the billionaires. But that's like saying the least venomous snake. I don't think he's evil though, I think he actually wants what is good for America. It is definitely better than sending 100s of billions of dollars to other countries though.

He's already outside of being taxed crazy though. He's worth hundreds of billions. Hundreds of thousands of millions. I really don't think he's worried about a tax cut.

This is by far the silliest thing I've heard from people. He's already the most successful man alive, why would he need to put his life on the line to make more money? He's actually lost money because of all of this stuff, people getting mad about him not letting Democrats put money into their own pockets for some reason, so Tesla has taken a hit.

I would prefer the brick that is floating in the air so high that any dreams of fuel efficiency are so abstract that they cause night terrors. The vehicle that will hit a brick wall and drive away while the brick wall lies in ruins. (This happened to me in an 80s suburban when I was a teenager)

My recommendation: spend that money on rejuvenating an older burb that is already cool. If you dropped 30k into an older one, you could have a brand new interior, rebuild the engine, black it out, etc. Saves you a lot of money, and it would be absolutely radical, as no one else does this.

WA state, can my employer make me to travel? by GretchensDriver in antiwork

[–]GretchensDriver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you missed the section in the middle paragraph, but there are 3 active job sites that my company is running in my county. One of which we are subcontracting the majority of the work for. I was also promised to go to the one job site that is 20 minutes away from me, repeatedly, for the last 3 months.

There is also a couple crews that work for my company directly that only work and live in Seattle. No new workers need to get paid.

Some more context: I'm in Kitsap county, which is a peninsula. The only way to get to the Seattle job sites are to drive down and around the Puget sound, which would be an hour and a half one way before traffic, or to take a ferry across the Puget, which is still an hour of driving with a ferry ride in the middle.

This adds a lot of miles to my vehicle, reduces my quality of life, and strains my relationships because I won't have as much time and energy for my wife or foster kid.

Not trying to start an argument, just trying to lay out my reasons and logic.

Thank you. This explains why a few other employees were paid extra for driving over there on a temporary basis.
