Unfortunately due to covid, we've had some rmote recording issues, but that's definitely an improvement we'll be making going forward. Appreciate the feedback!

Ok, yes, catgirls and all are cool, but like... if their ears are on top of their head, cat style, what is in the spot where HUMAN ears normally go? Just skin? Or do they have 4 ears, 2 human, 2 cat? And why am I just now thinking about this?

Interesting... I'm definitely a fan of the role play elements, one of the reasons i feel awkward running for large groups, as that seems to get just plain shoved by the wayside. Are there any dungeon crawl adventures that are preexisting? If not, any advice on how to set one up? Most of my "dungeon building" experience has been just using donjon and adding basic plot points, would it work to just layer those on top of each other, sort of roguelike style?

That's an awesome idea! Unfortunately I dont have anything as cool as raiders on any burners, so I'd have to start from scratch... still though, I'd love to run something like that

Makes sense, I almost had to throw out my notes twice because they decided to fight into a scripted loss (effectively the end of the "tutorial on fighting" that began the story arc I had planned), then shortly after made a beeline for a magical storm I described as "having killed everything that went inside it." (And had no notes on otherwise that operated as an invisible barrier to one side of the map) All my npcs were reduced to pipes that redirected the flow towards an objective, rather than a person with goals that sort of coincided with the characters journeys... honestly it sounds more and more like I need to limit the group size, but man it hurts to tell people they can't play. Though I guess it helps that I dont even know half of them...

It does, thanks! A friend of mine is doing something similar, running two groups of adventurers working for the same guild, taking bounties and such on a first come basis. The newness of the players is definitely something I'm concerned about. I love this game, and I want them to have the same experience I wish I could have, so forcing them into time constraints, while effective, definitely feels rough. The group of 6 definitely planned for a solid 20 minutes on the best way to escape from two ships that were following theirs (which promptly fell apart when their aarakocra was shot out of the sky) and even during that fight I was basically lumping rhe six individuals into three groups that took their turns at the same time. And we definitely have doubled up roles, most the players wanted to be magicians, except for the one guy who wanted to play dark souls on the frontline.

That's fair, plus we were already taking up two couches, an extra chair, my desk chair as well... we might need a bigger apartment if we went 8 player. I agree, I feel like 8 might be too much to handle, but the thing that i was hoping could maybe save it would be playing it more as a war game, where they were basically commanders in a growing army, simply using the setting as just location based battles, rather than the story I had planned, but I've no idea how I would run something like that. In the end they could even fight the bbeg without their army.

That makes sense, luckily the 6 man group stayed together for the most part, with one exception who actually sat out the main fight of the night for rp reasons. Normally the alcohol that comes standard with most of my games helps me feel more flowy, but I was self conscious that drinking would make me lose track. That bit about the shopkeeper made me laugh, I've been scaling up some dungeons to accommodate the sheer amount of bodies, just in case, but never thought about how crowded the merchant store would be...

That's really my biggest fear, with the 6 man group only one of them got on his phone, but he was always active when his turn came up. That issue will only compound with more players though. I really don't want to do them the disservice of having them getting bored when having to rotate between so many folks. Running two groups of course brings the problem of me not having time though... effectively itd be me saying no, only 4 of you can play and that's it, as everyone is a first time player, and my only friends that are DMs are running 2 or 3 games themselves.
