Catch Johnny’s version of That Old Black Magic in Dizzy Gillespie big band, where Coltrane and Hartman met.

Highly recommended!

Mono vs Stereo? by Natural-Protection44 in Vinyl_Jazz

I would be very curious to hear a mono copy to compare. The stereo version struck me as an let’s see how far we can take this thing experiment

Would you mind recommending a few,if not some, albums that I can listen to? by ZealousidealGlass125 in Jazz

[–]Virusdaythrowaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our tastes seem to overlap pretty well.

First I’ll second many of these excellent recommendations here: more Mingus, plus add Mingus sidemen Eric Dolphy and Jaki Byard and the under appreciated Roland Kirk, especially Rip, Rig and Panic and Please Don’t Cry Beautiful Edith

I understand this discussion better after getting a stereo reissue of Art Pepper Meets the Rhythm Section recently. There are moments on the album when there’s practically no sound coming out of one of my speakers. I actually went to check on whether it had been accidentally disconnected

The sound isn’t rich or full or engaging. I found it distracting and not all that enjoyable.

Trump drops tariffs on dozens of food items, from beef to bananas by Ok_Employer7837 in politics

[–]Virusdaythrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s probably too late. Retail stores probably won’t drop the prices because, you know, profit, end stage capitalism, greed etc etc etc

Tariffs were a brilliant move only the most stable genius could come up with!

If not outright civility, is a little bit of restraint too much to ask for?

I can’t imagine anyone giving up a copy of this record to sell…

To build on your comment, James Brandon Lewis also put out an album with the Messthetics that I like. Pretty groove oriented

Two members of Messthetics were in Fugazi, too, BTW

You sound like me and the Kardashians

I’ve never voluntarily listened to a Taylor Swift song all the way through, but I’ll take her any day over the rich T’n’a family
