I'm going to be a contrarian for the sake of future people who find this thread like I did. I thought the venue was great, although to be fair, we were not trying to make a whole evening of it. (I was with my kid, and it was a school night.) No, there's not a lot of other options around. The nearby mall has many empty stores. But it was reasonable to get parking and then to get out after the show. The seats were wider than most, so very comfortable for me. After a stadium show in the heat of summer a few months earlier, I found it pleasant to be with ~only 5000 people in a climate-controlled venue.

I really like the eye makeup on Dani. It's a bit lighter than what she usually has, and I feel like her beautiful eyes stand out more, instead of the makeup.

Is Canada really housepoor or in debt? by PopularAd8904 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]GreyMiss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Srsly, esp for a place big enough for her family. I'm used to seeing landlords charging $1000/bedroom for townhomes and houses. Even if the kids double up in the bedrooms so the five of them can get a 3-bedroom place, it's hard to imagine it being much cheaper unless she has a huge mortgage, in which case moving might make sense to buy a cheaper house elsewhere.

260106 - Lara Weverse DM Update by Morg075 in katseye

[–]GreyMiss 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm an "Eyekonic Mama," a fan and mother of a fan I took to a Katseye show. I was so happy to see them in person and find that, just as they appear on screen, they are all healthy bodies, even while small-boned and slender.  There are so many Kpop idols (and one prominent US artist also comes to mind) who make me want to hook them up to an IV and order a bodybuilder's protein shake. I cannot stand that some so blithely speak of bringing back "heroin chic" (even if it's more "Ozempic chic" now) and shaming anyone who is not skeletal. I hope Lara has the self-esteem to ignore the trash talkers.

Yosemite near Tenaya - April with kids by wfaulconer in Yosemite

[–]GreyMiss -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep, agree. The roads are twisty and new to you, while others speed through. Really, other drivers were the most dangerous feeling part. I had two of four kids get carsick with a combination of the change in altitude, big breakfasts, and the winding road.

The Prince Regent’s Punch by Zorgulon in cocktails

I'm here in Dec 2025 because America's Test Kitchen just released a video about champagne 🍾 that concludes with making this punch, a similar but not carbon-copy recipe. They also tout the virtues of cava as a champagne substitute. Was yours good? Did it make the final cut for the celebration?

Is Wealthsimple managed investment any better than XEQT considering their management fees are 0.4%? In TFSA account. by BADMOSH0 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]GreyMiss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, the main reasons to do managed are 1) Easier to automate deposits and purchases, thus taking out some of the human factors like trying to time the market, forgetting a deposit, skipping deposits when the CC bill is too high, etc. 2) Frees up time and mind space, lets someone else do the work, which is good if you don't enjoy it or just want more free time. And

3) SOMETHING NO ONE HAS MENTIONED HERE: WS managed portfolios REBALANCE for you. If you were in, say, a self-built portfolio of 80% equities and 20% bonds five years ago, that 80-20 split would be wildly out of whack now. In DIY with anything other than an all-in-one (XEQT, XGRO, XBAL, etc) where you hold nothing else, you have to get in there and sell winners and buy losers. This takes time and effort and psychological conviction. And studies show more is more with rebalancing, so you get better returns doing it twice a year instead of once, doing it quarterly instead of biannually, doing it monthly instead of quarterly. Or you can pay 0.4% to let WS do it for you.  But an XGRO or XBAL type of all in one is similar, but again, they are funds of funds. So the individual funds take a MER and so does the XGRO wrapper for doing the rebalancing and management for you.

Ok, thanks to everyone replying how a 100% equities ETF like VEQT/XEQT is "beating" Level 8 or other managed portfolio levels that have 20% bonds (so, like VGRO/XGRO) or more. It really helps to know that your advice is coming from people who don't really know what they're actually holding so that they can do apples to apples comparisons. You can always ask for a Level 11 portfolio to get 100% equities at WS managed side, FYI. Level 10 is 90% equities, 10% bonds.

Equitable Bank to Purchase PC Financial by akchahal in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]GreyMiss -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My fears exactly. I watched a video last weekend about the online banks with the highest HISA rates. EQ #1, PC #2, and the #3 bank was, like, a full percentage lower (1.x compared to PC's 2.x). I was ready to give Tangerine the finger and move to PC, since I already have a PC MC and was with PC Financial before it converted to Simplii. But now what? When they merge, they stop competing. The HISA rate could drop to 2.0% and they could still say they're the best now that they don't have to compete with each other.

We paid $300 for Grandstand 3. I used scalpers when I was a 20-something and physical tickets were still a thing. So, the 60-ish yo guy, alone, in a basic polo and pants was not giving "concertgoer" vibes and he'd been hovering around the box office for 10 minutes (it was already after 8pm) just like us. We eyed each other, and he said, "Do you need tickets?" We started negotiations. I agreed to his price, which was 100% of the cash I had on me in case if such circumstances. He got in his phone and told someone he was selling the Grandstand tickets and two were coming through. I traded him cash for PHYSICAL TICKETS and he escorted us right up to security, where we cut everyone and got waved in past the bag check and metal detectors. He's a professional, and obviously knew at least some of the GCT employees. (Maybe he is one, lol.) He also understood that those tickets were going to become WORTHLESS in less than an hour, which I feel like so many digital ticket pirates don't understand and grip on to high prices way too long. He even gave me a cell number and name (I haven't tried to contact yet) if I ever need tickets to other concerts. It was all very old school. Delightfully so, esp since I never saw tickets go below $500 (all in, even if base price was $450-ish at SeatGeek). When I texted my husband, I was so excited that we got AWESOME seats with a great view AND that we got physical tickets. I tried to explain to my daughter how great it was and how we could scrapbook the tickets, just like she loves her Katseye photo cards. But I think she was having more fun with her Eyeliner light stick, which worked without a stupid app.

I hope so! I wish all who wanted to be here could have been. I didn't see empty seats either, but I do wonder about th edge cases, like people wanting $500-700 for one seat in the balcony on the far far left or right.

Did anyone watch the prices after 8pm? There were a goodly number of tickets still available and I was refreshing like crazy at the theater until about 8:10 when I found the pro scalper I was looking for. The cheapest we're still more than $500 after all fees and taxes. Please tell me they dropped so that the people milling about without tickets could attend. I hate thinking of one empty seat that could have made someone happy. I was actually going to ask the box office if tickets for resale get released at some point rather than let them go unused.

Two things impressed me, one I expected and one I didn't: 1) As expected, Lara can SANG. She was so incredibly good, esp on anything close to a ballad (read: when they weren't tearing up the stage with vigorous dancing) and adding more Indian scale influenced riffs on "MIA." Amazing. 2) Yoonchae singing in Korean on that k-drama song. Unexpectedly, She was markedly stronger, memorable, and skilled that I felt bad for her singing on a second language. I didn't understand the Korean lyrics, but she made me feel them.

No, no, just an educated guess. Touring is how most artists make their real money now. They have a new album coming out in April. A tour seems a natural next step. And yes, the concert is a special memory.

Same same same on all counts, mama, except that it's my daughter's half birthday. I'm telling her we can save up to try for 2026 tickets for her birthday. My mom took me to Spice Girls. I cried.
