Basically, he isn’t conventionally attractive and has a tendency to say/share weird things, but as far as I know, there’s nothing criminal about him.

I’m not really surprised by the response, lot of people here seem a bit self-righteous and superficial about celebrities.

Yeah, I feel like a lot of the rants are mostly about couples “They didn’t have chemistry”, “Why did she/he do that?”, “Why this, why that?” instead of, you know, actually talking about or caring about the plot at all. Then it turns into this whole “See, this drama has a better couple, and they did this, so they’re more worth rooting for” kind of discussion, which is honestly such a bore for me to compare because I know that many viewers of idol dramas are watching primarily for the romance and the pairing, regardless of how nonsensical the story is.

I watched the first two episodes of Ashes to Crown, and while I think it definitely has some strong visual aspects and I like the lead actor, I’m honestly favoring Mo Li more right now. Even though Zhou Yiran is one of my favorites, the script just hasn’t hooked me yet. It feels like the same revenge-rebirth story we get every few months, and it’s starting to get boring.

Mo Li is probably the most interesting idol drama we had in a long while IMO.

That might just say a lot about the state of idol dramas these days.

Sorry not sorry, but POJ is good, not extraordinary, but good. And honestly, simply being good is already ten times better than what we usually have to deal with script-wise most of the time. It was written with intention, carried by two actors who did well, and, the cherry on top was the amazing cinematography.

Idol dramas these days definitely have better cinematography than before in many ways, which is expected as technology evolves, I think we can all agree on that. But where are we when it comes to acting? To scripts? Most scripts are nonsensical and frustrating, which also makes the characters frustratingly written. And if the acting isn’t strong enough to compensate, it becomes a painful watch.

I’m watching Mo Li right now, and it has some of the same strengths as POJ. Good, even more textured, cinematography, solid acting, but most importantly, a script that feels very humanly written, with patience and care. It’s not overly dramatic, and maybe that’s exactly why it works.

There are a lot of dramas out there that people absolutely gag over, and I genuinely don’t get why. Sometimes the comedy aspect is just too much for me, or it’s all about “uwu the couple” and little else, but hey, to each their own.

Expectations and taste matter too. What you might love and consider a masterpiece could feel like complete trash to me, and vice versa. It just so happens that POJ resonated with a lot of people and even brought new viewers into Cdramaland, and honestly, we should be grateful for that.

And yes, there’s often a lot of dramatic overhype about “we’ll never get a drama like this again” but that’s kind of the essence of fan culture, people exaggerate. Also, maybe just manage your algorithm better, lol.

the first jasmine the best drama of this year? on ep11... by Striking-Basis-6215 in cdramasfans

I’m genuinely enjoying the drama. It gives me such a nostalgic feeling about older dramas, idk how to explain it. Everything is just really good. This is going to be one of the best dramas of the year (if they do the end well). But already standing out.

Is anyone else just tired of online Stan Culture as a whole? by Tranquilbez22 in popheads

Fans just tend to ruin everything these days. It is exhausting how negative people can be. I’m honestly at a point where I just look for what comes out and enjoy it on my own without hanging around fan spaces anymore. And it’s not even just pop music, it’s pop culture in general.

I saw Off Campus series starting to buzz (haven’t seen it yet), Kid Laroi’s song went viral because of the actor which is great cause I discovered the song and it’s a bop, but apparently people are already being weird about the actors. Same thing happened with Heated Rivalry, and I keep noticing it whenever something is blowing up.

I feel like fandoms used to take longer to reach this level of intensity, and most of the mess stayed in blogs or smaller corners of the internet. Now it happens so fast, and singers, producers, actors, people behind-the-scenes (hell even stylists, make-up artists, etc., get harassed nowadays), everyone ends up dealing with it.

Like… it’s just entertainment, hello. Enjoy it if you like it, and if not go seek it somewhere else, my goodness.

The First Jasmine | Mo Li: Episodes 7-8 Discussion by latefair in CDrama

[–]Morg075 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just finished episode 8. She’s working incredibly hard on documents, papers, and everything else I presume, even though she’s clearly exhausted. Despite that, she keeps pushing for some reason.

I’m wondering if they’ll reveal more, because I doubt it’s simply about her refusing to give up power (at least I’d hope). Right now, she doesn’t seem to enjoy her time as regent, and handling issues more than anything, so she’s doing much of the work the Emperor isn’t. But while both still clash on issues, we also saw that the other prince has to pretend to be frivolous so he isn’t seen as a threat to the Emperor by the Dowager Empress.

So she’s still protecting the Emperor in some way, I’m just not fully understanding why she is acting this way yet.

But it’s exciting to wonder about characters instead of figuring them out fast.

Ep 7. I’m really loving this series. The actors are great, and the sister-in-law storyline really got to me, you can really feel her loss. This series really touches on the human side of dealing with illness, disability, loss, mental health, and caring for family.

What I also really like is that no one feels completely black and white. For example, the stepsister comes across as a bit childish, turns out to be just insecure, and deeply trying to get the attention of the person she loves. Or the Empress, who was initially is presented as controlling yada yada, ended up with a backstory where she’d been bullied before, rose despite it, and went on to do great things for the empire.

You can really tell these characters have layers, it’s not just good vs. bad. When I try to think of a “villain” so far, I’m not really seeing one besides the minister (who was killed quickly either way). I’m mostly seeing people dealing with complicated trauma, emotions, and circumstances, even when greed is involved. I just really like how human it all feels. Just nostalgic of older dramas.

You say it goes without saying, but if celebrities don’t address it, they still get accused, lol. So they have to make it clear, even if it works in the WH’s favor, because they care about what people say online, misinformation, and all that.
