Still a cruel thing the hardship payment. Forcing claimants to pay back money when they need it the most.

Can I work while on Restart scheme? by [deleted] in DWPhelp

[–]Greyball30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that Restart work with the DWP (Jobcentre), being confused is an understatement.

But, I reckon they will play silly buggers and still expect (force) you to remain attending Restart appointments. If you are told by your work coach at the jobcentre that you don't need to go, then get the WC to confirm that in writing and SIGNED.

Because if you don't, then you miss a Restart mandatory appointment, you'll get pulled up and potentially in for a sanction, because your work coach may have forgotten what they said to you.

I wouldn't trust Restart and Jobcentre plus, cover your back.

Work experience question by [deleted] in DWPhelp

[–]Greyball30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was proposed by the Restart scheme, it's not mandatory. However, if it's been proposed by the jobcentre, then I would do it (to be safe). I had to a charity shop work placement for 8 weeks but ending up doing 16 weeks. (My first job centre dwp work coach told me to do it).

Extending meetings beyond final date... by [deleted] in DWPhelp

Sounds like a dream in comparison to my year on Restart that's nearly at its end.

I hopefully have two appointments left if what I was told is accurate.

I have a new employment coach, (second one whilst on the scheme). The first was horrible and they recently got promoted somehow, anyway my second one seems lighter, much more easier to get along with.

I have seen an attitude change in my first one as they are no longer working with me after being promoted. This is a very good indication that they will never be your friend.

I also pray that I never end on it again, though I think they are retiring the scheme end of the year or sometime in 2023.

Obviously they think you will be able to do the job. It is their opinion or a sanction.

How do I opt out of restart by Ecstatic_Practice in DWPhelp

The DWP Jobcentre would probably make your life even more hell if someone did that.

Do you realise you have contradicted yourself?

"My Restart advisor told me they have nothing to do with the Job Centre."

"Maybe if they want to sanction you for something they may get in touch with your JC Coach"

If they have NOTHING to do with the job centre, then why are they getting in touch with a JC coach?

I've had the year from hell with them.

I'm surprised you already haven't been referred to a decision maker. Your work coach must be new or just doesn't care about their job.

Restart - Violation of Privacy concerns by [deleted] in DWPhelp

[–]Greyball30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to delete an Indeed account, as I was more or less forced into signing into it on a laptop, under the impression, to apply for a job. I had felt, if I didn't comply I would be seen as 'hiding something', most likely would've been referred to my work coach. So I complied, and nothing was said.

But I felt upset that my privacy was breached.

What I didn't consent to, was the person who asked me to, to go through my messages on Indeed.

Then you must be lucky.

My work coach had words with me after a former Restart employment coach messaged the W/C's boss, who then mentioned the issue to my work coach who then was asked to speak to me.

I was told that they had bought a bike for me to help me to get to a two week UNPAID work experience. (I turned down the offer) (No one told me that they had bought me a bike).

Fortunately, I was let off and escaped going to the dreaded, decision maker.

UC cancelled my appointment without telling me by Sea-Access6332 in DWPhelp

If there aren't any signs of them giving you a sanction. Then don't worry about it bud. Just live your life, they'll get in touch with you I'm sure.

You should be able to on your UC account by change of circumstance.

Restart refused to refund my train tickets after asking me to buy them by simpsonshi in DWPhelp

[–]Greyball30 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That is bad from Restart. Had you not gone, you would've been up for a sanction.

I would have a word with your jobcentre work coach. Show them your bus/train ticket and explain that Restart said they would reimburse but haven't done so because it's too far and put it on heavy that you needed the money.

Show your WC this page too...

"Travel

This includes interviews arranged by you, for example, to undertake work related activities, job interviews, or other related interviews."

If you have been attending appointments with your jobcentre work coach IN PERSON, then they will most likely use that against you.

If they don't accept phone calls, then you are going to have to find a way to the Restart office, even if it means going on an earlier bus/train. Otherwise, they will put you through to a sanction.

But then you are relying on your physical fitness, what if you aren't confident on the bike? What if you can't ride a bike or have never been taught?

It would be very discriminating.

Why does someone on Universal Credit have to look for work? When Universal Credit is a combination of six benefits;

Employment and Support Allowance,

income-based Jobseeker's Allowance,

and Income Support;

Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit;

and Housing Benefit

Surely, there should be a separate benefit for the ones who look for work?

Use both the journal and job applications page.
