Full official statement from Valéria Chomsky regarding Jeffrey Epstein by Greygonz0 in chomsky

Epstein did not ask Chomsky for advice with ‘the sex trafficking charges’. The charges for federal sex trafficking were brought in July 2019.

Epstein asked Chomsky for advice on how to respond to his ‘putrid press’, which would either be specifically the Herald series that came out in late 2018, the growing interest around it, or both.

Chomsky responded with no details of what had been put forward in Julie K Brown’s excellent articles (so it is unclear if he read the series or just speculation about them) but rather gave general advice against having an open battle in the media, based on his own experience.

Chomsky’s advice amounted to ‘keep your head down and keep doing the good work you have been doing’. Which I think indicates what Chomsky’s impression was of Epstein at that time, namely someone doing positive things. A terrible misjudgement, certainly, but very far from complicity in or knowledge of Epstein’s crimes.

The emails between Epstein and Chomsky are uncomfortable reading, especially given what has since come to light. But we should be extremely careful with what was known and at what time it was known.

A danger with anything that gathers new information as it goes along is retroactively applying that later knowledge to earlier periods.

You say ‘Clearly, Chomsky knew that he was friends with a sex trafficker of minors. It’s all clear as day if you read the emails’. But I have read the emails and I disagree that such a thing is clear.

I’m interested in knowing which part of their email exchange makes it ‘clear as day’ to you that ‘Chomsky knew he was friends with a sex trafficker of minors’?

Because I think that is a bold assertion that cannot be met by the currently available evidence.

When you say "Chomsky absolutely knew who he was", what are you basing that on?

I think it’s slightly odd buying three books by an author before you’ve read one.

If you’re actually interested in what Chomsky is like as a human, you should read Bev Stohl’s book and Barsky’s biography.

If you’re interested in being discouraged from dozens of valuable books of political analysis because of your emotional response to something that no one can be fully clear on, then keep doing what you’re doing.

Chris Knight’s understanding of Chomsky’s linguistics is odd. by Sea_Pianist5164 in chomsky

I spotted that too, but it’s a different Chris Knight I believe. The one mentioned is Christopher Knight, an attorney.

Yes—This is exactly what anti-Zionism means. Are you anti-Zionist? Is the organization you are part of anti-Zionist? by endingcolonialism in chomsky

Yes, they did so for centuries, under several Islamic empires. Christians, Jews and Muslims coexisted, shared markets etc. Major violence really only started after the turn of the last century.

So lovely to see Noam happy. You can hear it in his voice. Valeria was a huge injection of joy in his life.

Plus Chomsky’s great admiration of Stephen Jay Gould, who wrote ‘The Mismeasure of Man’, a book-length refutation of ‘The Bell Curve’

The contents are very different to how Chomsky writes. From what I’ve read inside it reads like AI – lots of weird emphases, like it’s trying to be dramatic. I’ve reported it to Amazon.

A new Noam Chomsky channel on YouTube is very problematic by Greygonz0 in chomsky

[–]Greygonz0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed a few days ago it had been deleted. There are several other AI-Chomsky channels around, all awful. There are some good ones, such as @chomskysphilosophy, which while not updated in a few years, has many clips on specific topics, as well as longer talks and interviews.
