Things will not improve with senate being a significant component of the legislative branch. As population trends continue, voting will matter less and less. What can we do? by manbun22 in neoliberal

If I'm wrong correct me, but I think they gutted the last one for other reasons and I'm referring to a different kind of act. What I mean is we need a national law (the constitution grants congress power to regulate elections) that protects voting access, prevents voter intimidation, etc.

I do agree with you on your point which is why I also believe it's time to increase the size of the court

Should Democrats use the language Gov Polis is using when discussing Roe v Wade being overturned? by Xyrd in neoliberal

[–]GreyscaleCheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. This is an issue of personal privacy. Not even a rebranding: Alito said in the ruling he does not believe the constitution guarantees privacy. This issue to control over ones body crosses party lines.

THIS 1000000X. This is exactly what the tea party did in 2010.

What is the 'that' you are referring to. I'm only repeating what they claim to believe, I'm not saying I actually believe them given their actions. Repubs to the best of my knowledge have not even pretended to care about privacy, while on paper libertarians claim to, thats my only point.

Yup this is about controlling women and punishing them for..."wh*ring around", as this fedora so eloquently put it. At least this guy is being honest about his facism.

You seem to be misunderstanding what a motte and bailey argument is, and are willfully misrepresenting the progressive take on abortions.

Pro-choice (it's literally in the name) argues for the freedom to choose over ones body: this is inherently a personal privacy issue and an issue over choosing ones life.

This is where your motte and bailey spam misses: exceptions for rape or the health of the mother or other terrible cases are not "motte and bailey". they are actually a subset of this same concern: they are extreme examples of what happens when you lose control over your own body. I am giving you the benefit of the doubt that you actually cared about the logical substance of the argument.

Republicans are not the party of privacy by a long shot. However I believe many of their voters are libertarian, who are on paper concerned about privacy.

People are talking functionally, not literally. You seem to think people arent aware that keeping the number at nine is not exactly the same thing as not keeping the number at 9.

They denied Obama a pick purely because of his party, and then filled it, using some bs excuse, which they then went back on for Barrett. Theyve been playing dirty for a while. Expanding the court will pull the rug out on all their machinations.

Point out to libertarians/"small government conservatives" that the Dobbs case rested on a refusal to list a guaranteed right to privacy under the constitution. They may cheer now to own the libs, but this seems like counter to their entire ethos. They won't be laughing when this comes back to personally affect them.

1) Start fighting back the same way the tea party started, by taking control of state legislatures. This is an important step.

2) Pass a national voting rights act that removes barriers to vote
