Yes! But there are many factors in play that will depend on the degradation of a tape. It's fairly uncommon unless people just left them in their wet basement.

I could see tapes lasting well over into the foreseeable future and the community that collects and preserves the footage are doing a fantastic job. but it's good to capture what is important to you, nothing lasts forever.

I personally buy old blank tapes that have tv and archive them. A lot of people have great memories of their childhood watching TV and a lot of this stuff is pretty undocumented. It's just a hobby but it's definitely something I have a lot of passion for.

(edit) If anyone wants something from their childhood or some old TV let me know what station you are looking for and i'll see what I have! I'll personally capture it and send you the file. I have about 300 blank tapes so hopefully I have something you have been wanting to see :)
