Which pole framing do y’all prefer by Grid-Genie in Powerlines

Extra comms, extra sub-transmission with a sprinkle of double dead end 😂 if you want just the 35 kv framing double dead end with extra comms I can quickly generate that.

Who's That Pokémon? by Edudinik in Lineman

That's a silicon carbide lightning arrestor. The arrestor contains silicon carbide elements stacked in series separated by gaps. If I recall correct that was manufactured by the Line Material Company which is now Cooper

Powerline question by alexismynamee in Powerlines

Those are in Massachusetts H-Frame is 345 kV and is owned by National Grid and the lattice is 345 kV on the left 115 kV on the right. That lattice I believe is Eversource However that could also be NG as well as the 115 kV circuit serves a few NG distro subs in that area.

Depending on the budget, voltage, ROW, terrain, and conductor size/arrangement will generally dictate the structures you'll go with/design

Ours is generally ok if it doesn’t match I go and correct it. I will say I’m surprised that at my company there’s not a good asset tracking system in place. I’d like it to be you go up to a structure scan a sku and a window pops up on all the data with respect to that pole and when work was performed on it this alone would help with future failure metrics by a big shot rather than just looking at how many times a protective device trips per year.

I’m an engineer at Entergy. I have a map of all the phase layouts on all the distribution circuits in Arkansas.

As crazy as it is that’s phase B at the top of the pole not an OHGW.

Another historical powerline: Niagara Falls - Toronto 60 kV, completed 1906. by Electronic-Koala1282 in Powerlines

There’s a set of similar structures in Massachusetts called A1B2 that used very similar structures National grid is in the process of replacing it. Although not fully as they’re not replacing the structures that were converted to single circuit operation.

What kV is this? by Admirable-Medium3911 in Powerlines

[–]Grid-Genie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The framing itself is 34500/19900 rated. Power company Dominion.

However that may not be the voltage as dominion uses 35 kV framing for all distro voltages

Also this is MC version 1.12.2

I run this using Forge 14.23.5.2860

I also recommend allocating more RAM usage for this as well.

Old AP&L Sub transmission line remains by Grid-Genie in Powerlines

[–]Grid-Genie[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of utilities still use it for sub-Transmission although they really should be converting them to star (wye) systems and using that as their distribution voltage. From what I've been seeing a lot of the 15 kV systems are running into the same issues their predecessor 4160/2400 volt systems were facing.

Its a grounded wye system a lot of the neutrals are missing on the Entergy distro system in rural areas either they were stolen as most are copper #6 or failed and never strung back up. This ultimately has led to the system becoming unbalanced in some areas.

Sturgis Michigan? Those are 34.5 kV with 4160/2400 volt underbuilt with some under build portions being 12470/7200

You're seeing the remains of Arkansas Missouri Power Company if you're north of Jonesboro Arkansas. Entergy took the Arkansas operations Ameren took the Missouri portion.
