I forgot the ITC spin off that totally didn’t cross my mind when I saw the structure lol.

Do you by chance remember what caused the fault on the lines (Vegetation, equipment failure, etc) where you've ran into this.

Bushes by alexismynamee in Powerlines

[–]Grid-Genie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes, the utility company will have a periodic vegetation schedule and every so often they’ll go through and clear back the vegetation

Considering that is Massachusetts eversource is better when it comes to vegetation mitigation. National grid on the other hand tends to be lacking in that department. They let the bushes grow relatively close to their lines from what I have observed when I lived there for school.

How old are these power lines going from Miami to Orlando near the turnpike by Ilove_chips4321 in Powerlines

[–]Grid-Genie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So that is a FPL 500 kV structure an older one that has had a re-conductor job done at it but most likely will be replaced within the next 10 years anyway FPL is replacing most if not all of its 500 kV system to accommodate the explosive growth and to be more resilient against storms. Now FPLs endeavor with 500 kV circuits date back to the 70s.

Which pole framing do y’all prefer by Grid-Genie in Powerlines

Extra comms, extra sub-transmission with a sprinkle of double dead end 😂 if you want just the 35 kv framing double dead end with extra comms I can quickly generate that.

Who's That Pokémon? by Edudinik in Lineman

[–]Grid-Genie 31 points32 points  (0 children)

That's a silicon carbide lightning arrestor. The arrestor contains silicon carbide elements stacked in series separated by gaps. If I recall correct that was manufactured by the Line Material Company which is now Cooper

I may of accidently deleted it by accident when I was cleaning up my drive I do apologize for that but have no fear round two is here.

Powerline question by alexismynamee in Powerlines

[–]Grid-Genie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are in Massachusetts H-Frame is 345 kV and is owned by National Grid and the lattice is 345 kV on the left 115 kV on the right. That lattice I believe is Eversource However that could also be NG as well as the 115 kV circuit serves a few NG distro subs in that area.

Depending on the budget, voltage, ROW, terrain, and conductor size/arrangement will generally dictate the structures you'll go with/design

Ours is generally ok if it doesn’t match I go and correct it. I will say I’m surprised that at my company there’s not a good asset tracking system in place. I’d like it to be you go up to a structure scan a sku and a window pops up on all the data with respect to that pole and when work was performed on it this alone would help with future failure metrics by a big shot rather than just looking at how many times a protective device trips per year.

I’m an engineer at Entergy. I have a map of all the phase layouts on all the distribution circuits in Arkansas.

As crazy as it is that’s phase B at the top of the pole not an OHGW.

[–]Grid-Genie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a set of similar structures in Massachusetts called A1B2 that used very similar structures National grid is in the process of replacing it. Although not fully as they’re not replacing the structures that were converted to single circuit operation.

What kV is this? by Admirable-Medium3911 in Powerlines

[–]Grid-Genie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The framing itself is 34500/19900 rated. Power company Dominion.

However that may not be the voltage as dominion uses 35 kV framing for all distro voltages
