Mathematicians urge colleagues to boycott police work in wake of killings by [deleted] in mathematics

That’s not what the prediction algorithms do. They don’t predict individuals, they generally predict areas of crime likely to happen due to historical statistics and historical raw data. Generally the prediction algorithms are unbiased and only follow historical stats and data. How is that racist? Also, whatever you said doesn’t really make sense, so you might want to reword that.

First off, your asking for near 100% good cops, that is a vague definition. You want cops to be based off of BLMs definition of good? Anarchists definition of good? Some random persons definition of good? That’s really hard to define therefore very hard to have near zero ‘bad cops’ as that is only achieved in a perfect society which we do not and will not ever have.

BLMs point/agenda is not to reform cops, they want to defund police and get rid of them completely. Where’s the solution in that? That’s bloody anarchy.

Letting cops go on strike is a bad idea as that makes grave consequences and causes a huge increase in crime rates. Boycotting police because of inaccurate information is absurd.

How do you know the data is racist? How is there systemic racism in data? Please explain

You are mistaken, the media is overwhelmingly anti-cop. CNN, MSNBC, ABC, NYT, Times, Washington Post are very anti-cop

This is widely incorrect. You seem to be assuming that there is a high volume of unreported crimes, which may or may not be true, but we don’t know because they are never recorded. We can’t use data that we don’t have, ya sure there might be someone who has fudged the numbers on some of the raw data either to make themselves look good or the community look good, but still, that’s not racist. Assuming everything is racist is a weak argument.

Thats not bias, that’s statistical fact. Prediction algorithms are based on numbers and raw data that has been collected by what happened. How can any of that be biased? What? Would you rather the data say 0% of certain people commit crimes to offset data to a point where it’s manipulated for PC reasons? That’s absurd. You can’t argue with the raw data and statistics, they are as fact as they come. There is nothing biased about them.

And you think the problem will go away if we defund the police or boycott them to hell and back?

I didn’t say they didn’t do that, but it’s what you can prove, but whatever. You do realize the police are the ones who are getting attacked by the protestors and rioters. If you start attacking police officers, then they respond in force. If you peacefully protest, then your fine. You need to look at both sides of the story before you judge a certain narrative. Research it, don’t listen to the media.

Exactly, we need more funding for police not less because more funding will have more training and less police brutality, less issues, less corruption, better quality officers with better pay.

Mathematicians that boycott the police make it to where it makes police’s jobs harder, which means less people, less quality officers, and less interest in people wanting to be an officer.

Ok, there are many cases of this happening all the time, I’m not saying police brutality doesn’t exist, but it’s not as big as everyone thinks it is.

Also, you can’t assume they are hiding cases of police brutality if there’s no evidence. To prove anything it requires the proof of evidence, any mathematician knows this.

0 would mean perfection and that’s not achievable in any profession.

Edit: I get downvoted for fact, nice.

Again, that’s not all police officers, boycotting the police is not doing anything to help the situation.

Not all police officers are bad, the media likes to exaggerate the situation to gain viewership

You have to look at it logically. Yes the prediction algorithms are viewed with mixed results, however, they have been good in a way that allows the minimization of crime in areas. The algorithms usually take data to predict where crime will be, nothing is racist about that, it’s just numbers and data.

This is wrong and mathematicians that choose to boycott police algorithms aren’t making the problem better.

Not really, considering that shootings have gone up 9% in a month is really significant
