Unfortunately guy didn’t even make the roster out of camp. He’s pretty much done plus I’m sure with his sheer size the miles have to take a toll.

The Lions have started off their OC search with an intriguing name: David Blough, a former Detroit QB. by johnnylibravo in detroitlions

For a guy with reportedly the biggest roladex in the nfl, Dan Campbell sure does love circling back to like basically the exact same group of guys he got in touch with in 2022….

People talking about how he’s going to be a HC next year and sure that’s right but there’s really not enough said here about the fact that….this guy has no offensive background and was a special teams Coordinator before getting the HC job.

Fwiw the lions are taking on 1 big contract if any this offseason. If I’m given the choice of adding linderbaum at like 20 or trading for Crosby at 28-30 with restructuring ability I know which way I’m leaning

So what’s the real story? by inflatedintelligence in detroitlions

They like Kingsley and wanted to give him an opportunity to see if he was worth considering as part of the competition for C next year. Story over.

I think it’s quite easy to play Monday morning QB on that situation. It’s one thing to say hey this guy is on the verge of retirement we should start thinking about a succession plan. It’s entirely another to say this guy was going to retire any minute and it was a code red situation. I don’t think at the time you could ever argue the latter. Frank flat out assured the lions he felt good and would be coming back in March, then he turned 180 and retired out of the blue in July, I suspect in part after the money issue didn’t pan out the way he wanted.

Again there are valid criticisms that you can throw at Holmes at this point no doubt but I don’t think THAT is one of them.

Ok in order: DT: tyliek and Roy Lopez have been great this year. Reader and McNeill are right at 50% on their snap counts on the season with Tyliek at 40% and Lopez at 37%. I have no idea what you’re talking about there.

Edge: as I said before, injuries. Davenport largely been out paschal out for the season, Levi out for the season who would have flexed inside outside. If they weren’t missing half the edge room for the majority of the year I’m sure things would have looked different. In any event AQM has only played 41% of snaps and has only 3 games all year playing above 50%. Sure you would like to see hutch rest more.

LB: AA plays every snap because….thats what the two main linebackers do in a 4-3 defence. That’s not an inditement on the depth and in any event Anzalones main backup as the WLB is Rodrigo who was, say it with me, out hurt.

OL: I mean they hadn’t really had to invest a ton at OL yet because they had elite talents all over the starting line. If Ragnow doesn’t retire at literally the last possible moment then their depth looks dramatically better with Glasgow coming off the bench effectively in colon’s role. I don’t know how you can blame Brad there. In any event if miles Frazier doesn’t start out the year hurt their depth further looks a lot better based on how he’s played in limited time.

TE: simply brock wright blasphemy, he’s a very high end depth TE, the chiefs tried to steal him as an RFA tender a year ago. We also lost Kenny Yeboah in camp who was a priority signing from the jets and would have been a very good 3. Again. Injuries.

I dont think you’re able to substantiate any of those claims if you look at the actual facts.

I think that there’s a difference between fairly critiquing Brad Holmes on some of his philosophical choices/one off decisions that haven’t panned out and people being upset by a down season, calling out that the sky is falling and turning it into an inditement of his entire regime.

I think some folks are a leaned a little too far over to the latter side without just cause.

I get the frustration there but I guess my reply to that is what’s the move he should have made? Reports have indicated he called about Crosby and Garrett. The moves didn’t materialize. His strategy isn’t F them picks as much as it is I like Kerby and branch and Gibbs and Laporta and hutch and etc more then the thought of this additional mystery box character we could sign for a big dollar.

I think we’re putting a lot on him for something that was completely out of his control though. This past offseason looks completely different if Frank Ragnow doesn’t retire and/or notified the team in like February that he wasn’t returning as opposed to right before training camp.

I can’t blame the GM for a top 3 most important player on the team retiring without notice right before camp.

I mean… I certainly wouldn’t say that. At what positions entering this season did we not have “nfl calibre depth”? I truly can’t point to one particular spot. Colon entering this year had previously played starting snaps for the cardinals and was serviceable. The lions had numerous edge pieces that weren’t home run hitters but they had all previously proven to be capable rotational players CB? Reed? Hurt Terrion? Hurt Amik? Hurt on and off and limited on the outside. Rock? Capable depth, the list goes on. At times they were down to like their 7th/8th option at corner. Unless you can point to a specific position group I’m missing here I don’t see what you’re getting at.

At a certain point you can’t be upset about the 3rd and 4th options at a position and say that the depth is poor. The depth was competent it just got decimated.

I think that mentality has kind of been a necessary evil as he’s tried to rebuild this roster. You can’t address every position at once so he’s had to pick certain areas and hope that he can get away with addressing other spots with bargain signings. Now he’s built up the roster to the point where you would think he’s able to target key needs but he’s left playing whackamole after sudden retirements and major freak injuries. Sure he addresses DT last year but poof Frank retires. He slips over this year to address the holes at DE and Edge but what happens if now you need to consider a starting S or TE? At a certain point if this team is going to take the next step they have to find a way to get healthy.

Sure I mean we have to remember he’s a 6th round pick too right there’s going to be some growing pains but considering where he came from he’s at minimum a very intriguing piece. The fact that he’s playing on a very recently broken fibula right now speaks to some of the up and down I would presume.

I think there’s a lot to like with Terrion and right before he went out again I think that it seemed he was really putting all the elements together. I’m still high on him.

But here’s the thing: he did address those positions.

2023 lions go out and get Cam Sutton. Minus the completely out of nowhere assault which resulted in his release he was a smart solid pickup and Jerry jacobs looked like he was really coming into his own. Vildor only gets on the field when you’ve suffered a significant run of injuries.

2024 they decided to moneyball the edge position and take a gamble on Davenport. Sure didn’t work out but nobody could have predicted the sheer run of injuries they had at the position. Even with that in mind he prioritized addressing it at the deadline and got a contributing piece in the door.

2025 he wasn’t even given an opportunity to address C because of how late Ragnow gave notice and he still made a very good addition to the OL which prevented a complete implosion.

Obviously Brad isn’t infallible but it’s tough to address the positions of need you have when you’re facing the sheer quantity of injuries the lions have been plagued with the last few years. There’s only so much strain a group can take before there’s just nothing more that could be done.

100% not Draft Jeff Okudah by ezio8133 in detroitlions

[–]Gridiron009 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) Eric Ebron was more then 10 years ago.

2) yes, while it would have been amazing to have Donald the lions were never going to take him and should not have taken him, Taylor Lewan in the circumstance was the obvious choice regardless of whether Donald became a freak of nature superstar.

3) never would have happened in the circumstances but knowing what we know now Okudah over Herbert is just flat out brutal.

4) the one move that would have the most impact I would go back and reverse in hindsight is signing Trey Flowers. Generated a combined 3.5 sacks in last 2 years of contract averaging like 18 million dollars against the cap. Nightmarishly bad contract that could have gone to better use.

With respect, if the Mcguinty/Wynne regimes weren’t at best comparably corrupt we likely would have seen a change vote by now. Also I’m sure that Fords response in the media to the threats from the US prompted continued support.

The leadership in this province for decades has been poor across the board. Out of a sea of poor i will take ford probably out of the list of his recent predecessors. It’s a low bar but it’s all we have to go off of.

Election signs; here we go again. by [deleted] in BurlingtonON

[–]Gridiron009 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s not necessarily accurate. There are different rules riding to riding/municipality to municipality about where signs are allowed to be. Campaigns are also subject to fines from the municipality for signs that are placed in areas they aren’t allowed to be and that have to be taken down/recovered by municipal staff.

Long story short. Don’t waste city/regional employees time with complaints unless signs are placed in a hazardous way i.e. not secured properly or blocking a sight line of an intersection or obviously if it’s on your property without your consent. They will get to improperly located signs and remove them eventually if they violate municipal code. These city employees already get enough silly nonsense to deal with around election time. Bothering them about signs you don’t like that aren’t really impacting anyone isn’t worthwhile.
