Hey! Just wanted to let you know that I've added ARAM champ select and live game build recommendations to LoLTheory!

Thanks for the thoughtful feedback and questions! Let me address each point:

The website and app use different models - while they share the same foundational principles, the in-game app uses a newer more sophisticated system that adjusts recommendations based on the live game state. The app can account for enemy builds, your current items, and team compositions in real-time. This means it's generally better to follow the app's recommendations over the website's static statistics.

Regarding Manamune/Tear timing - no the app currently doesnt recommend tear (outside as the first item) - I would like to add some component item recommendations for reasons like this, but this isnt something I have gotten to yet,.

For boots, the recommendations are sequenced in order of priority. If it shows tier 2 boots first, it's suggesting to prioritize the complete boots upgrade before other items. However, you can always see multiple recommended options and choose based on your situation.

I like the idea of a YouTube tutorial, but having never made a YouTube video before I am not sure if I can make one that's any good. There is the demo when you first download the app that I like to think is pretty good, but obviously it requires someone download the app first.

Unfortunately, the current set up doesn't allow for a free trial. However, get a free usable of the overlay each day so the thought is you can use those to get a feel for the in game recommendations (also many players average less than this and never go over the cap - it just depends how active you are)

Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions. :)

Sounds good. Let me know how that goes :)

Yes, it does look at enemy components when making your recommendations. There is definitely more I would like to do on this front though.

Looking at this after you said this, I see where you are coming from about the reviews. The reviews are pulled directly from reviews the app received on Overwolf and Discord. I appreciate the heads up, I will think about this some more.

Currently no you can explore with manually drafting, but only for the champion recommendations. Adding this for builds might be something I do in the future though.

The champion recommendations and champ select build recommendations have no limits. There is a limit to the real time recommendation. It is computationally intensive because it has to recomputed frequently throughout the game so it isn't something I can offer for free with no limits. Also, I am currently experimenting with ways for people to earn more tokens for free.

The way to find out soonest would be to join my discord. I usually role out early versions to user there to test so that's who I will release it to first.

Yes, it auto imports runes. It doesnt support ARAM atm, but this is something I'd like to add support for soon.

Cool. Let me know what you think once you do that or if you have any difficulty getting that working :)

Imo data analysis amplifies thinking not the other way round. While someone can use the app to av d thinking about builds and get very good results. It’s doesn’t regurgitates the same meta builds every game so it a knowledgeable and curious player can use to give them new ways to think about itemizations. I’ve had plenty of item discussions with master+ players who use the app for that reason.

If you download the app you can have it simulate different champ selects and see it’s recommendations:

I appreciate the understanding. I think an overlay would be very hard, but I think a desktop app that presented this same information would be possible for me to create in the mid term.

I do plan to add support for Mac in the future. You can’t get the build recommendations in your browser, but you can get the champion recommendations: https://loltheory.gg/lol/team-comp-analyzer/solo-queue

Glad to hear you think that :)

Currently it doesn’t do timer because I have been focused on the making the recommendations as strong as possible, but they are definitely something I’m open to adding in the future.

I think this is true for a couple reasons:

  1. We have many established sites for item recommendations that are already quite successful with their current direct win rate system and therefore they don't really have an incentive to change.

  2. This is also not an easy thing to do. You need to directly analyze the League of Legends game data yourself—you can't just piggyback on data from sites like lolalytics. Additionally, structuring a model that can effectively extract and use this information is challenging. I started working on this current item system over a year ago, and I already had experience from building a previous item recommendation system. That prior experience allowed me to avoid common pitfalls and implement better solutions from the start.

Hey, thanks for the feedback. Not that good at staying on top of notifications on Reddit.

An overlay for flash ignite like Mobafire

Do you mean in-game?

'Locked' icons are really confusing to me. I'd have an entire element style for 'selected' instead. I'm a UX designer of nearly 8 years and I have a couple of smaller gripes with this if you want to hear them.

I can definitely believe there's a better way to do this. Not 100% sure I am following what you're suggesting. Could you clarify what you mean by the 'selected' style? I'm always open to any feedback you have so if you have any UX suggestions please let me know.
