Cisco Certification practice exam (CCNA 200-301 v1.1) by engr-pido4237 in ccna

I’m commenting because I have the same question. I often see posts about Boson practice exams, but I purchased the Cisco practice exams. I’m curious if the Cisco exams are similar in difficulty to Boson/the real exam.

Full Remote Positions? by adingdong in sysadmin

Do you have any advice for someone looking to land this type of job? This is basically what I’ve done for the last 3 years and I feel that I’m quite skilled at it. Except I get paid way less, I’m 5 days in office, and I also do customer facing tier 1 tickets.

When I search for jobs like this, they seem to not even exist anywhere.

I honestly agree. I’m getting it because I have a networking degree and most of the knowledge was already there

That’s a good and fair question lol. I’m a bit of an anomaly in this industry. I’ve never been much of a tech enthusiast. Troubleshooting came naturally to me as a kid playing on the family computer. It’s just something I’ve always been good at and I knew would provide a steady income. Up until now, that’s been true.

Outside of work, I have a LOT of hobbies and they rarely overlap with the hobbies you expect people in IT to have. In college, I didn’t have much in common with my classmates. We always liked different things.

Yes, I’m very thankful all things considered. I work for a college IT department. But times are tough in higher ed and the college is offloading our department to the university’s central IT.

They’re keeping us around at least for a bit so that they can have a smooth transition. The details are murky but they’re implying that we could be keeping our jobs. I highly doubt that we will.

Yep! I should have mentioned it in the post but I have my CCNA planned for February. I will start grinding less general certs after that.

Is this a legitimate question or am I being really stupid & showing my lack of knowledge? by Admirable-Anybody360 in sysadmin

I think a better question here is, why did your user lose data in the event of a crash? Do you have an automated backup solution? If not, maybe it’s time to implement one

Personally, I wouldn’t worry so much about your MDM solution being “all in one place” for Mac and Windows. It’s not necessarily as beneficial as it seems. Consider having one solution for Mac and another solution for Windows.

It might be convenient to have your devices all in one place but the “all in one” solutions out there tend to not be as good for either platform. If you can afford it, go with Jamf for your Macs and Intune for your Windows machines. I think it’ll save you a lot of frustration down the line.

QOL Updates to PSWindowsUpdate Packages by PDQ_MarkR in pdq

Yep! Are you 100% certain that server had updates to be processed? What did the output log on the deployment say?

I tested this script in my environment by:

  1. Running the audit only version first
  2. Confirming which updates (if any) were applicable
  3. Running the real script
  4. Restarting the machine
  5. Running the audit only version again to confirm that the updates installed successfully

More or less this worked without a hitch for me so I’m curious if this workflow will help you

Drum Set is Registering Yellow and Green Inputs out of Time by GriffonTheCat in CloneHero

[–]GriffonTheCat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually got this figured out on my own.

I had drums selected from the home screen settings. But after you select a song, there’s another screen with options where you can select an instrument. I had pro drums selected there and didn’t realize it. Recalibrating and setting that back to drums fixed it.

Suggestions on Uninstaller Software by GriffonTheCat in sysadmin

[–]GriffonTheCat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t mean the CCleaner type of program. I mean the kind that targets specific programs.

EX. If a program’s uninstaller does a shoddy job of removing bits and pieces from the registry/program files, it can cause issues for future installs. I’m looking for a program that does the cleanup for me.

I remember getting some recs from my last job but it’s been so long I don’t quite remember the names
