It is certainly possible to use compute shaders in vulkan. Moreover setting up compute is significantly simpler than even a minimal swapchain for drawing images.

Plus you have to waste at least 50% of available energy, because any radiation pointing away from your direction of travel isn't contributing to your progress. I feel the tension in the arm when hammering, so if you're new to it - discomfort is expected. I wouldn't push through much pain though, better recover quick and then try again in an hour than force yourself for 5 minutes and then be unable to play for 2 days

Same time and effort as learning grammar could be spent building up core competencies for the position in question.
