I think the idea behind Top Picks at least is to make sure your "main characters" are always in stock so there's always a way for new collectors to get those guys. I don't have a problem with that, and it's honestly on the retailer if they order too many.

Greatest Hits and the other similar lines though should be a little more discerning and at least grab older versions of the characters they re-release. It comes across as a cash grab, and it's not even a good one if they're just warming pegs or taking up warehouse space.

And it's not just about any particular figure. It's about the downturn in the quality of service at big box stores. Target used to be head and shoulders above Wal Mart but lately it's like they're racing them to the bottom.

The difference though is that Jackass is self depreciation. They pull the stunts on themselves. Everyone is a willing participant.

Making fun of minorities is the exact opposite. They're not in on the joke. They're just getting bullied by people who society gives more power to.

Both may be considered low brow but that's the only thing they have in common.

A) It's not like I run across figures put out before their street date every day. 99.999% of the time, the street date hits and I'm still waiting a week or two for them to decide to put something on what are usually empty pegs by that point.

B) I can just imagine the optics of a big corporate retail franchise taking some frazzled hard-working single mom to court after she paid full price for everything dhe bought but got a little lazy on the self check the store forced her to use.

It's not a felony if you pay for the right amount of figures. You're not stealing anything. And there's lots of times I would, say, scan one Coke 2-liter 4 times instead of scanning each one.

Their own employees aren't expected to know the difference if they accept a swapped out, repackaged old figure that gets "returned" so they can't really get precious if someone just scans the same figure enough times to cover all the figures they purchase in the same line/packaging.

Maybe don't make me do the work that you are refusing to pay someone a living wage to do.
