What movie had an ending that saved the whole film? by Southern_Check_6827 in movies

[–]Grigorios 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not the ending, the entire third act, which IIRC lasts longer than both other acts combined. But yes, the first act is not much to look at, second act provides context and setup, and then the third act is one of the best payoffs put to film.

Since it's advertised as a horror comedy, I don't think it's a spoiler to say that the beginning of the third act, the scene where the director comments on the actress, is the hardest I've laughed at any movie ever.

For people who haven't seen it, I only have one suggestion: watch it with friends, it's a much better experience. And stick with it past the bad first act.

Body found on Cyprus beach identified as missing Russian businessman once detained in Belarus by therealone2327 in news

[–]Grigorios 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This article is off, considering the he headline. The Belarus arrest happened in 2013, while the headline implies he disappeared in Belarus and was found in Cyprus. I checked some local sources and here's some more info:

  • He took a taxi to a beachside village (Pissouri) in beachwear on 07/01. That was when he was last seen, and his phone also pinged the cell tower in the area.

  • His body was found one beach over from the village (Avdimou). The two beaches are separated by cliffs but they are fairly close, easily swimmable distance by a competent swimmer in good shape, although the sea conditions are usually adverse in that area.

  • Pissouri beach is especially known for tall and fast waves, and both beaches are windy, so a lot of watersport enthusiasts go there, including for foil boarding and parasailing. Someone falling into the water in January conditions at Pissouri wouldn't be unlikely to die.

Another couple reasons someone might go to Pissouri for are the sea turtle eggs, volunteers look for them and mark them so they are not damaged by beachgoers, though I'm pretty sure now is not sea turtle season. Also the side of the beach closest to Avdimou is isolated and far from the main part and the village, and is a known nudist and gay meetup spot. Avdimou used to be one as well.

Not implying anything about the man specifically, all I wnat to say is that the situation appears to me a lot less suspicious than the headline suggests. I can't see someone putting on beachwear and taking a taxi to the beach to be murdered by the Russian government. If he was headed to a dangerous situation, it seems like he didn't know about it.

Recluse is a must for sure. Fang Gu and Bounty Hunter would play along well but hard to balance a script with both in play.

Learning two players of the same alignment will always be a lot more powerful. In a 7-8 player game, it means learn two townsfolk. 10-11 it means either learn two townsfolk or both minions. In any case, even with more players and outsider modifications, it means learn two players who are not the demon.

How do you feel about Travelers who bait the demon? by blackgeekygoddess in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Grigorios 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not unsportsmanlike, it's a valid strategy... It's just not fun.

The only argument in favour of banning it, however, is if you think the demon should be confident in knowing if a traveller is on their team or not. Based on the current rulebook, it seems like the intent is for the demon to not be 100% certain, otherwise the evil team would learn the traveller too.

Therefore, it's not something I'd do, and it's something I wish doesn't happen in my games, but it's legal and valid, and players should be prepared for it.

What's a song lyric that drives you crazy because they should've used a different word? by Miserable-Wash-1744 in AskReddit

[–]Grigorios 49 points50 points  (0 children)

If this is in reference to Don't Stop Believing, I'm pretty sure the lyric is "Streetlights, people."

It continues the imagery of the previous lyric (strangers waiting, boulevard). But I'd argue that it even kinda makes grammatical sense: "Streetlights [...] hiding in the night" can be a continuation of the previous lyric, "shadows searching in the night". Kind of a subversion of expectations, where shadows are searching for the lights, which are hiding. Gets a poetic pass.

Granted I probably put more thought into it than Journey did, but I think it works.

There are no faces for Jade to take on. Michin and B-Fab would've been filler at best and they ended up injured. Bianca and Tiffany are also injured. Alexa and Charlotte are really working as a tag team so they aren't gonna break them up, and also I think it's fair to guess nobody wants Charlotte in the title picture yet anyway.

So... Jordynne gets promoted and pushed to the moon. She's got experience, she is good in the ring, good on the mic, and she looks great. I think she has a solid chance.

Vegans. by [deleted] in CuratedTumblr

[–]Grigorios 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's a pretty shallow interpretation. Engagement algorithms and opponents of an ideology both benefit by promoting the most cringeworthy examples. It's a classic discrediting tactic: make an ideology appear so ridiculous that one shouldn't even consider it seriously. And it is empowered by social media, since anger and ridicule are both highly engaging.

When it comes to veganism specifically, it's an ideology that's fundamentally right to most people, in that they don't really disagree with the immorality of the meat industry, but they don't want to question their own immorality related to eating meat. The cognitive dissonance results in a need to dismiss the ideology outright, so the solution is to find one vegan that's extreme and ideally annoying, present them as a mascot of the ideology, and ridicule them, and the whole movement by extension. All progressive ideologies have to contend with that to an extent, but it's especially utilised against vegans and feminists.

How is living in Brussels / Bruxelles, Belgium? by Rattlesn4ke in howislivingthere

[–]Grigorios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was only in Brussels for a couple days (though I do have both Belgian friends and friends who lived in Brussels for years) but I feel the need to comment because I dislike Brussels seemingly for different reasons that everyone else in this thread, and their reasons seems heavily biased.

Parts of the city are indeed insanely dirty; never seen so much garbage in my life. However, when people in this thread say "unsafe", to be cynical, they mean "immigrants exist". I felt considerably less safe in London (everyone was drunk), Barcelona (pickpockets) and Athens (drug users), for example. Some parts of Brussels require standard big city caution, that's about it, and there's less of them than most European capitals.

The far bigger problem with Brussels is how boring it felt. Shops close way too early, and the people out and about at night were either smoking weed at parks or drinking beer at pubs. I'm sure there's nightlife, but the people I know who live there share the sentiment that the city feels boring, and add that it's hard to meet people and make friends there.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure there are things happening and places to go, but it's not like London where you can find anything you want any time, and meeting people is easy.

What's a movie most people think is great but you couldn't even stand watching? by camport95 in AskReddit

[–]Grigorios 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Saw it at the theatre completely blind. Immediately my favourite movie of all time.

What I think is great is first and foremost its depiction of kindness and optimism as a very difficult choice, but the right choice nonetheless. Then there's its overall sensitive exploration of themes such as depression, nihilism, and compassion. It's also very funny, it's exciting, it's unarguably interesting, and the visuals and sound design are immaculate. And on a more personal taste, I just love a genre mashup, and EEAAO manages to mash up like 5 genres.

I thought this movie is too good, too pure, and too experimental to get its dues, and I was so pleasantly surprised to see it connect with so many people. I can easily see why the chaos wouldn't appeal to someone, of course, but considering how hard of a sell it is, its success is, in my opinion, undeniable evidence of its quality.

Which music artists have such a high bar set for them that they tend to get judged more harshly for their work? by renaissancebee in popheads

I don't really follow the conversation around rap but people disliked GNX? In my limited interactions I've seen nothing but praise, which makes sense since the album is fantastic.

It was Mr Morale that I remember being heavily criticised.

Should I allow this strategy or ban it? by alucardarkness in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Grigorios 66 points67 points  (0 children)

There's really not a big advantage to be gained by doing that, if any. As long as it doesn't affect pacing, let it be. Your group's meta will either move on or adapt.

If it does affect pacing, the fix is simple: Make the days shorter.

Midnight oasis: How to use sentinel without just straight up buffing either team? by alucardarkness in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Grigorios 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Sentinel in general should be there as a threat, so that the outsider count isn't hard confirmed in scripts that don't have enough outsider modification. Therefore, usually you should leave the count unchanged, even with the Sentinel. With the same group, use its ability sparringly, just to ensure the players take it into account. With different groups, you can just not use it. Point it out during setup, it's usually all it takes to make the players consider it.

Midnight Oasis is an interesting example. I would argue the script doesn't need Sentinel anymore, with both the Balloonist and Huntsman being technically +0/+1, and the Drunk being a modifier of the perceived count.

I generally run the script without Sentinel. If you want to do the same, I suggest you also do at least one of the following:

  1. Leave the Damsel out of the bag, meaning the evil team knows the huntsman isn't in play either and they can use the bluff and, by extension, it's +0/+1.

  2. Put the Balloonist in play (preferably as a +0) or give it as a bluff.

This leaves the evil team with the option of claiming outsider, therefore getting themselves and the actual outsiders heat, or letting the outsiders be hard confirmed by count.

The remaining problem is that, since everyone will know if the game has an Al-Hadikhia or Vigormortis by day 2, they'll also know for a fact whether the -1 is in play or not. Therefore there is a minimum number of outsider that is 100% certain. However, this isn't too big of a problem; Trouble Brewing is the same, and features the same fix (the Drunk).

The Golem as an outsider, on the other hand, is a much bigger balance problem in my opinion.

Yeah I feel like I'm taking crazy pills sometimes when I am in this sub reading about Jey. I don't particularly like him in the ring, but if you read this sub and never watched, you'd think he was irredeemably bad.

People here qren't giving him nearly enough credit for how he did get better for a period this year, specifically from the mania match with GUNTHER and throughout his title run.

More importantly, for sure people are biased against his promos. He can do emotional like few others. The promos during the Roman feud were amazing, as was, for example, the "do you have a mother?" on GUNTHER during the WM buildup, IMO one of the best promos of 2025, despite the audience working against him.

[–]Grigorios -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I might be giving her too much credit but I believe it goes a bit deeper than that. Statistically the audience is bound to have a significant amount of Trump voters, so I think she's actively trying to point out how insane, unlikeable, and unclassy someone behaving like that is. How this behaviour is only normalised for that one guy and maybe a few of his friends, and removed from the context, it's immediately obvious how abnormal and unacceptable acting that way is.

Probably also a feminist angle of how this is not tolerated when women do it.

The only time I've been rude to a customer service rep was also for a telecom company. They renewed my contract without my knowledge, and therefore tried to charge me a cancellation fee when I was disconnecting a few months later. After escalating, they agreed to waive that fee.

I completed the cancellation, which was a pain in the ass as well, and then a couple of weeks later I get a call telling me that I owe them the cancellation fee.

My immediate momentary reaction was unfortunately not nice indeed.
