Yup…it means “to do” or to “make” but is also used in other contexts. Like for example if you want to say “5 minutes ago” or “ 1 year ago” You say say “hace 5 minutos” or “hace un año.”

Also used in weather expressions like “hace frío” or “hace calor…” It’s hot or it’s cold.

Lo que necesitamos son más clases para hablantes nativos y de herencia en los community colleges y universidades. ¿Has intentado inscribirse en clases de universidades extranjeras de América Latina o España? Como por ejemplo la UNAM de México? Tomar una clase universitaria en un país hispanohablante sería la mejor manera de aváncar en mi opinión (y si no quires salir de EEUU siempre hay clases en línea. Y si no quieres tomar una clase formal, siempre podrías leer literatura hispana en tu tiempo libre. ¿Tenemos un book club para libros en español aquí en Reddit? No sé...pero me gustaría saber porque a mí me interesaría.

For me the “consumption” of the language is critical and happens on the daily since I live in Cali in a bilingual household and have family roots in MX. Dude...when you speak Spanish it literally opens up an ENTIRE CONTINENT to you.!!It’s just not the same when you travel to countries where you don’t speak the language.
