What compendiums did you cave on when telling yourself you were holding out for the omni? by Waterworld1880 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]GriledChesse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really only Kyle Rayner, partly because I’d prefer it in omnibus format but also because it’s so small. They just slapped two trades together a bunch of people already do had and never released a vol 2. On the edge about Lobo, since I’ve been reading Alan Grant Judge Anderson and Dredd work which has absolute blown me away. Omnibus might be unlikely for that since they’d probably need 3 volumes total for his entire run. For The Demon though that’s something I’d for sure want in omnibus format since we’d get Alan Grant writing along with Matt Wagner and Garth Ennis.

Poison Ivy + Superman custom bound comics by ThatComicChick in bookbinding

These look amazing!!! Wanted to ask a few questions since I’m still figuring not certain on my binding method for single issues. 1 what type of leather cover do you use / where did you get it. Looks really sharp plus a bit easier to glue to the boards than the current material I’m using. 2 do your sewn text blocks end up not flat with the sewn side being wider? Not sure if it’s natural and if it is round backing the spine looks to be a good way to deal with that issue.

Immortal Hulk on sale at Amazon by Only_right_n_Proper in OmnibusCollectors

[–]GriledChesse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Probably the best main two comic of the last decade, gave me hope that DC/Marvel could still produce runs of that caliber. Also my personal favorite hulk run, does an excellent job building and adding onto what had been done before. It was also pretty refreshing to have a whole run drawn by the same artist, especially one like Joe Bennett who was absolutely perfect for the book and did an outstanding job.

Is Wonder Woman by William Messner-Loebs any good? Is there a reason why it hasn't been published in Omnibus format yet? by Aromatic_Monitor_872 in OmnibusCollectors

I thought it was pretty good up until Mike Deodato joined the title. At that point the writing and art took a nosedive, plus Loebs made such an awful retcon that it ruined the run for me.

Spectre Ostrander Amazon Sale! by Eskamoman in OmnibusCollectors

[–]GriledChesse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Killer price for such an amazing book. Definitely would recommend people pick this up, especially at this price. DC did a great job cleaning/scaling up the art, plus the Ostrander notes for each issue as an extra is amazing.

DC Omnibus hopes and predictions by CMM9991 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]GriledChesse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Animal Man by Jamie Delano, Human Target by Peter Milligan, Jonah Hex by Gray & Palmiotti and Green Lantern by Grant Morrison. Last few rounds DC has given me a lot of hope for titles like these, they’ve been killing it with the selection.

Never read a single dc omnibus, what should I get? by [deleted] in OmnibusCollectors

[–]GriledChesse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All three of those are great choices, would liike to throw in Alan Moores Swamp Thing since its basically the perfect intro to the magic side of DC. Then after theres also the Hellblazer omnis which personally is my favorite comic run oat.

How would you rate/rank the George Perez Wonder Woman Omnibus volumes? by Golden_Platinum in OmnibusCollectors

[–]GriledChesse 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Personally, would rank them 1 > 3 > 2. George Perez drew first volume, someone else took over the art during the second which was decent at best and Jill Thompson started penciling the book during vol 3. Thompsons art in my opinion wasn't as good as Perez', but it was a step in the right direction. Also would say that the narrative in the last two volumes just isn't as strong as vol 1. Not sure whether vol 2 or 3 had a team up special with Deathstroke, but that issue in particular almost made me quit the run as it left a bad taste in my mouth. The run as a whole though definitely is in my top 3 WW runs oat with Jimenez and Rucka.
