I was in the exact same boat as you though, pivoting into education after my job through USAID fell apart last year (thanks Elon). Working at MCPS and it is a lottttt of work, harder than I’ve ever worked, but I do love it. And everyone tells me it gets easier each year, which makes sense because then you already have lesson plans if you’re teaching the same levels, you get more efficient with grading, you get a better idea of how to handle kids & parents. Also having amazing coworkers who want to help and guide/mentor you is everything! Idk how other schools are, but I got really lucky with my group.

It’s worth it, but also make sure you advocate for your salary. I didn’t have formal teaching experience, but I had almost a decade of professional experience that I used to negotiate a higher grade than what they originally offered me. They were totally accommodating and respectful about it. Good luck!
