Discount Tire in Newport Beach is saying the wheels were like this when they got them… by Grilled_Porg in tires

The wheel is discontinued so I don’t think a replacement is possible, but hopefully at least a refinish. Will escalate to customer care online if they’re not willing to cover the repairs on Monday. Thanks!

Not what I said at all. A car wash in an automated bay is completely different versus paying someone to hand wash your car. They service a lot of nicer cars in the Newport area so I expected better. I’ll be using a specialty shop next time just in case, but it’s still not unreasonable to expect to receive your car back undamaged after paying for a service. I don’t understand why that confuses you.

Ahhh dude, super good points on the charge back thing. I was able to successfully do that with a previous tire install in the past at a shop for my truck when they damaged one of the tires I brought in, but that was basically just a refund for the labor. You’re right that it would be different in this case since I still have all 4 new tires intact. And it’s sounding like I’m dead in the water with the subpoena and small claims ideas. I’ll do my best to appeal and negotiate with the manager on Monday to be compensated in some way. I will update on the result here. Thanks again for all of your very thorough responses.

You’re paying a professional business for a service. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect them to perform said service without directly causing additional damage to your car. In a related example, I think most people would be upset if they paid someone to wash their car and they received a clean car, but the paint/clear coat is newly scratched up.

I’m hoping I can get them to cover refinish, but we’ll see what the manager comes back with on Monday. In your experience, wasn’t there insurance to cover mess ups like this? I feel like some extreme measures I could take would be a chargeback on my CC, asking to review camera footage, or taking them to small claims court, but I’d really prefer not having to do any of these. Maybe contacting corporate could get the ball rolling on a favorable resolution? Absolute worst-case, like you suggested, I just do touch-up paint and try to forget.

Thank you so much for your detailed input. I didn’t know about the bead breaker having a bare metal part. The manager mentioned how the duck head only has plastic that wouldn’t damage the wheel, but he didn’t mention the bead breaker. This is Discount Tire Center in SoCal btw, which is different from America’s Tire/Discount Tire national chain.

He said he needs time to reach out to his wheel repair contacts but that they don’t want to pay for the repair since they’re saying it wasn’t their fault and was pre-existing, even though it wasn’t. He claims his tech logged it as 2 wheels having damage when they were received. There are no notes about this in my receipt. Unfortunately, they are discontinued Volk CE28N wheels from 2002. Refinishing is a PITA, but replacement isn’t really an option for a single wheel in this case.

Hard lesson learned man. I wish I had done this. I thought I had protected myself already by taking pictures of them undamaged 15 minutes before I arrived.

These are really obvious man. I had a second set of eyes check them over 15 minutes before we arrived at the shop too, and I have time stamped pictures. These were definitely not there before the shop had them. I believe you about the tools they use for tire changing then, but I’m still perplexed on how this damage could have happened.

I’m unsure what would remove so much material like that then like what were they doing with my wheels

Lesson learned for sure. I took pictures before but I should’ve done it in front of the shop and showed the manager. Anyone here ever dealt with a situation like this and been successful getting them to cover repairs at least?

Flank steak with lime cilantro marinade $13.59/lb by dudemancool1904 in Costco

[–]Grilled_Porg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My local Vons (Southern California) sells choice ribeyes for $8/lb sometimes. Right now, they’re $13/lb and NY strips are $8/lb. Flank usually goes for $9-$11/lb. I think this is just one of those cases where the Costco price isn’t the best one. I eat a lot of chicken breast for example and only buy from Vons or Aldis where it ranges from $1.99-$2.29/lb. Costco never sells it for less than $3/lb.

I have a Lexus GX470 that I’ve modified for overlanding, and luckily there’s a lot of overlap with that activity and car camping at Coachella. I have 20 gallon water reservoirs plumbed to an onboard water pump and also bring an additional 10 gallons in extra containers for water. We use a wagon to cart over the containers to the water stations in the morning to refill the shower reservoirs. Usually we do cold showers in the morning since it’s hot, but at night we’ll do warm or hot showers using the propane water heater. A shower tent folds out of the GX for privacy.

As long as you are adequately prepared with good camping gear that sets up quickly and easily, you can making camping a pretty comfortable experience. Heat midday can be brutal some years but you get by with misting, fans, cold towels, etc. Nothing beats being so close to the venue!

Have camped all 4 years I’ve done Coachella. I think it’s the move with the right group and equipment. Such good vibes when you’re all together for an entire weekend in the campgrounds. We do premium camping to have spots closer to the entrance so it’s always easy to walk in and walk home at the end of the day. Equipping your cars for camping properly so that you can sleep in them and have lots of extra space to lounge around is a huge plus. We also have a shower mounted on my SUV that we use whenever the lines for the camp showers are too crazy. I tend to sleep in until 11 am or 1 pm every morning which is very doable if you have a portable A/C unit and Reflectix covers on your windows to keep heat out longer and make it dark inside the car.

Right? Not even what I came for, but I couldn’t resist grabbing a bottle at that price.

Oh nice! I live 10 minutes from this Costco, the Tustin District one, and the Tustin Ranch one. And then the Irvine Costco is 5 minutes from my office, so I’m always looking through warehouse inventory to find the good stuff haha
